I’m Poking Around The ATmosphere
For those confused about when I say I’m in the “ATmosphere”:
Bluesky is built on top of the AT Protocol so that your public content and identity can be distributed across apps. Bluesky is just one app built on this, but anyone can build their own web app. Your identity is pretty much an open source asset, albeit often misconstrued as “ownership.” You are the product on social media, essentially. In this sense, you are the product in an open source type of paradigm.
Other web apps in the ATmosphere, built on the AT Protocol, include:
SkyMuseum
PinkSea
Flashes
Accounts suspended on Bluesky are not suspended across the network. They are not actually suspended.
Bluesky actually points this out in their TOS.

Your content and identity live in the AT Protocol on PDS repos, not just Bluesky. So if banned on Bluesky, your posts still appear on apps like Spark or PinkSea.
Because of its decentralized structure, a Bluesky suspension does not affect other ATmosphere apps. Whether or not the ATmosphere is truly decentralized is up for debate. Some people are using Bluesky banning Mississippi as an example of it not being decentralized; however, Bluesky isn’t the ATmosphere. People on the fediverse are bending the truth a bit.
They argue that it is not decentralized because on Mastodon, you can move to another instance if banned, whereas with Bluesky, there are no other instances to go to since authority is centralized. It is true there are no other microblogging apps using the AT protocol yet, but you can move to a different app. It is all very messy. I like ActivityPub better.
Its structure is decentralized, but whether it actually functions that way is another matter entirely. That is an ongoing debate within the Fediverse right now, especially in light of the age verification laws sweeping across the Internet.
AT Protocol (ATproto) feels very similar to blockchains, to be frank. DIDs feel very cryptocoin esque. A PDS feels like running your own node in a blockchain network. You can technically take your PDS elsewhere, just like switching crypto wallets or blockchain explorers, because your identity and data are not locked to a single service provider. It creates this illusion of “self ownership,” similar to how the crypto space talks about “owning your digital assets.” And that makes perfect sense when you realize that Bluesky was venture capital funded by Blockchain Capital. So of course, the protocol would operate similarly to block chains.
I recently did a memetic analysis tracing the phylogenetics of the memetics of Bluesky, where I found evolutionary markers of meme propagation originating from progenitor image board cultures.
From Chan Spaces and Toxic Image Boards to Bluesky
PinkSea is an AT Protocol web app that is a modern revival of the classic “oekaki BBS” (bulletin board system) art boards. That this canvas exists pretty much confirms the connection to image boards. I have been comparing BlueSky to Twitter, but I think the idioms, culture, and conventions lean closer to Tumblr.

Vorhin wollte ich doch tatsächlich über die Deutsche Bahn meckern. Wir standen knapp eine Stunde mit dem IC 60402 von Zürich mach Amsterdam in Frankfurt/a.M., davon eine halbe Stunde Verspätung, so dass ich vermutlich meinen Anschluss in Köln verpassen werde.
Aber dann dachte ich mir: warum meckern? Ein Signal ist defekt, das wird nachts um 3 Uhr repariert: Chapeau!
Vor genau zwei Jahren war ich aus der Haft entlassen worden. In Gefängnissen ist es Alltag, dass Inhaftierte warten, und warten und nochmal warten.
Auf die Entlassung sowieso, aber vorallem im Alltag. Darauf, dass Beamt:innen die Zelle öffnen, dass mensch aus dem Warteraum des Gefängnisspitals zurück auf die Zelle gebracht wird, oder in die Besuchsabteilung, oder zum Sozialdienst, oder, oder, oder.
Eine halbe Stunde Wartezeit ist an solchen Orten Alltag, oftmals werden Inhaftierte auch eine Stunde oder länger in Wartezellen 'abgestellt', ohne Klo, ohne Frischluft. Warum auch nicht, Zeit haben Gefangene im Überfluss- so die herrschende Auffassung der Vollzugsbeamt:innen.
Nach langer Zeit in dieser Gefängniswelt ist es ein Privileg, im IC warten zu dürfen: aus dem unvergitterten Fenster schauen, mehr sehen, als jemals von der Zelle aus. Radio hören, im Internet surfen, die anderen Reisenden beobachten, Kaffee trinken, lesen, nachdenken.
Irgendwann werde ich schon ankommen...

Companies have been seized. Stealing recourses and cash. So far, "revenue-sharing agreements" with Nvidia and AMD, as well as its equity stakes in Intel, U.S. Steel, and MP Materials.
Last week, his administration “bought” a 10% stake in Intel. He’s let Nvidia and AMD export AI processors to China in exchange for a cut of their sales. Earlier this summer, he allowed the sale of U.S. Steel to Nippon Steel in exchange for certain consent rights, rights that other commenters note to be vested in Donnie Conman himself as opposed to the U.S. government. Corruption is so blatant that more and new crimes emerge every day, overshadowing the ones from the day before.

You see, now that people have been using AI for everything and anything, they're beginning to realize that its results, while fast and sometimes useful, tend to be mediocre.
Don't believe me? Read MIT's #NANDA (Networked Agents and Decentralized AI) report, which revealed that 95 percent of companies that have adopted #AI have yet to see any meaningful return on their investment. Any meaningful return.
To be precise, the report states: "The #GenAI Divide is starkest in #deployment rates, only 5 percent of custom enterprise AI tools reach production." It's not that people aren't using AI tools. They are. There's a whole shadow world of people using AI at work. They're just not using them "for" serious work. Instead, outside of #IT's purview, they use #ChatGPT and the like "for simple work, 70 percent prefer AI for drafting #emails, 65 percent for #BasicAnalysis. But for anything complex or long-term, humans dominate by 9-to-1 margins."
