Zwischen Hassliebe und Resignation
Lars beschrieb sein Verhältnis zu LinkedIn als „Hassliebe“ — er sehe „zwischendurch immer wieder mal Perlen im positiven Sinne“, nutze die Plattform beruflich in der Agentur und wolle sie auch weiterhin nutzen. Meine Haltung ist wesentlich kritischer. Ich habe versucht, mich zu erinnern, wann ich zuletzt eine für mich relevante Information direkt auf LinkedIn gefunden habe. Mir fällt nichts ein. Was ich stattdessen bekomme: Man will mir was verkaufen, Veranstaltungen, KI-Expertise, LInkedIn-Expertise und die unvermeidlichen Kontaktanfragen von Menschen, die mir erzählen wollen, wie sie mich erfolgreicher machen. Noch erfolgreicher?

Ich habe Lars gefragt: Wie viele konkrete Jobangebote hast du in den letzten zwei Jahren über LinkedIn bekommen? Seine Antwort: „Keine.“ Bei mir dasselbe — null. Kein Traumjob-Angebot kurz vor dem Ruhestand. Lars erzählte dann von einem Fake-Profil, das seine Agentur Archetype vor zwei Jahren zu Trainingszwecken angelegt hatte: eine fiktive Mitarbeiterin, deutlich jünger. Für Jüngere könnte das Karrierenetzwerk funktionieren, vermuten wir.
BrowserGate: Safari und Firefox als Ausweg
Nochmals zum Thema BrowserGate, weil es uns wichtig ist: Das Scannen von Browser-Erweiterungen durch LinkedIn betrifft wohl nur Chromium-basierte Browser — also Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera. Wer Safari oder Firefox nutzt, ist nach aktuellem Stand nicht betroffen. Lars und ich nutzen auch wegen Brwosergate deshalb Safari und Firefox.
Warum schauen US-Unternehmen bei LinkedIn konsequent weg?
Was mich immer wieder fassungslos macht, ist die komplette Ignoranz gegenüber dem Thema Datenschutz in LinkedIn in Unternehmen, insbesondere in US-amerikanisch geprägten. In keiner Videokonferenz, keiner E-Mail, waren BrowserGate, der Datenmissbrauch über den blauen Haken, Datenschutz und LinkedIn generell je ein Thema.
Stattdessen wird LinkedIn von den Unternehmen weiterhin als seriöses Business-Tool behandelt, Mitarbeiter werden regelmäßig aktiv ermuntert, dort zu posten, zu liken, sichtbar zu sein — während die Plattform im Hintergrund ihre Browser-Extensions durchleuchtet und biometrische Daten an US-Subprozessoren weiterreicht.
Das sind Unternehmen, die andererseits regelmäßig Cybersecurity- und Compliance-Schulungen zu Datenschutz durchführen (müssen), die DSGVO-Beauftragte haben, die ihre Mitarbeiter zwingen, jedes Jahr ein Privacy-Training zu absolvieren. Aber LinkedIn? Da schaut man weg. Da gilt offenbar: Was dem Geschäft zu dienen scheint, wird nicht hinterfragt.
Lars sieht das bei deutschen Unternehmen durchaus anders — da sei Datenschutz bei LinkedIn-Programmen schon ein Thema. Aber bei amerikanisch geprägten Organisationen fehle „das grundlegende Verständnis“. Das ist sehr diplomatisch formuliert.
Null Kommentare bei 3.000 Kontakten
Auf meinen Blogbeitrag über LinkedIn kam auf LinkedIn selbst kein einziger Kommentar. Trotz meiner knapp 3.000 Kontakte. Auf anderen Plattformen wie Mastodon dagegen lief eine echte Diskussion. Das sagt mehr über den Zustand der Plattform als jede Algorithmus-Analyse.
Lars brachte es am Ende auf den Punkt: „Es braucht Regulierung, anders geht es nicht. Die Unternehmen selber werden ihre Praktiken nicht ändern.“ Nur steht eben genau diese Regulierung unter Druck — durch den Zollkonflikt mit den USA, durch politischen Handel hinter den Kulissen. Ob die EU standhaft bleibt, wird sich zeigen. Mein Vertrauen ist begrenzt.
