We just did an update on a @opensuse #tumbleweed (rolling release) machine that hadn't been used for months.

I want to go over some perspective regarding the UK #onlinesafetyact (even though I'm talking about the uk's law you can generally take the same principles for any similar e.u, or u.s laws. (note that laws might differ in their own ways.)
They (UK) are going after platforms like #meta, #Youtube, #Tiktok, #Instagram. For a few reasons.
These type of platforms are for profit, meaning these large platforms care about making profits over user safety. This is why these laws are being made.
Also these large, for profit platforms have a large amount of social, and media influence. (a large user base/audience.)
Whether the UK online safety act will enforce Mastodon, I don't think it will, immediately the same way as meta Google, Youtube.
for a few key reasons.
a. Mastodon is a open source and non profit, but also federated. Is pretty much just a graphical interface. Not a single platform in the sense of Facebook.
b. there are hunreds (possibly even thousands of Mastodon servers. Regulating all those compared to Facebook or Instagram is a lot more taxing. Because you have to actually find the servers in the first place. Not every server is on Mastodon's default server finder.
c. because it is nonprofit, this might actually give mastodon some legal protection in some countries, or in some cases. I do know that not in the UK this is the case. (since Wikipedia must follow it.)
if you are in the UK and you don't want to summit an id, just join some sever, in another country and legally you as a user should be fine as these laws are more directly targeted at platforms.
any fines platforms get that are out of the UK they don't have to pay #legally. You might end up #regionblocked but, oh well that shouldn't affect the rest of the internet's freedom on other parts of the globe where the laws don't apply. (looking at YouTube for the record.)

I just learned from #veritasium that in the #usa the #nist provides #srm, i.e. standard reference materials for relative measurements. Literally some 💩, steel, glacier water... many, many more. So that companies can compare their measurements against some standard material.
To my #european ears, this sounds utterly ridiculous. I've never heard of anything similar. I would think that in Europe we would use more absolute measurements and compare stuff to some en or #din norms, using properly calibrated measurement devices.
But I have no clue. Is that so? It is there some European NIST, providing "Domestic Sludge"?

I think the bug I resolved (I wouldn't say fixed) in @novelwriter today is the weirdest I've encountered so far.
The app uses @-based keywords to set meta data in the text. An auto-complete menu pops up to suggest which keyword when you type an @ on a new line.
In the current version (at least) if you have the editor "justified margins" set, type an @, then type backspace, then *and only then* will Qt/PyQt segfault and crash the app.

Regarding the biased data of the website itself. I'm not a fan of BS (or bitch@). Somehow only 2 projects showcased, completely ignoring other real decentralized alternatives like ZeroNet, AutonomiDweb, @librecast, nostr, Freenet \ Hyphanet, blockchain-based projects, #LBRY , dApps, etc

Quality != Quantity
I do prefer using Fediverse+ActivityPub over BS. However, what irratates me is data representation of belief that many servers\instances on many domains on many clients are good actors and sign of decentralization. It might be good under perfect weather conditions, but it is not protected against Sybill, 51% attack, bots, sockpuppetry etc ...
If Jack\BS spawn hundreds of servers under hundred domains with LLMs larping as humans, to look more "decentralized" on https://arewedecentralizedyet.online - you don't have software or algorythmic protection from that.
Secure Scuttlebutt protocol could offer an such protection, but it lacks of modern developers & resources.
turns out that's a site of Rob Ricci, a research professor (I wonder if CS?) who build cloud infrastructre (so he should be aware of how easy is to spin hundreds of vm's with 1 click)
@happyborg I do believe that network protocol projects, such as AutonomiDweb, should be in hands of Non-Profits.
ActivityPub specification, standartisation is in hands of non profit w3c.
I've thought Mastodon Gmbh is a commercial company from Germany, but internet says it's 503 Non profit in US. I won't mind if private company does fair business with FLOSS.
But BS is full for profit, so they have incentive to manipulate market\network.

Acabo de encontrarme a un cliente de tidal echo en gtk4 bastante bueno llamado High Tide,le di algunas pruebas y funciona bastante bien aunque carece de algunas cosas como el algoritmo de tidal (no se si sea posible llevar eso al cliente) pero fuera de eso esteticamente se ve bien pero tampoco es ultra configurable,quien quiera darle un vistazo puede verlo en github:
