Good morning everyone.
One million people are facing imminent death and destruction at the hands of Israel in Gaza.¹
Israel has issued evacuation orders for one million people. These are people who have been displaced over and over again in Israel’s ongoing genocide. They have nowhere left to go. To move South costs on average $5,000 to rent land, a tent, and sanitation due to war-time profiteering. That’s if they can get someone outside of Palestine to host their fundraiser and if they can keep their social media accounts from being shut down by mainstream Big Tech platforms and after paying half the donation amount or more in commission while withdrawing the funds that are sent to them.
Things are desperate.
Mastodon and the fediverse are the last lifeline for people from Gaza. It’s their last chance of reaching us in the outside world so that we might help them survive the genocide and famine being wrought out by Israel.
@joynewacc and I are having video conversations with people from Gaza who have Mastodon accounts every day to verify them in hopes that this will help them raise funds to live.
You can find the verified accounts on Gaza Verified:
I hope you will follow them on the fediverse, perhaps send them a few words of love and solidarity so they know they’re not alone but that there are some of us that see, hear, love and support them.
And, if you can, please support their fundraisers, boost their posts, and share their accounts.

Ich muss mir nicht überlegen: "Oh nein, wenn ich das jetzt like, kriege lauter Kram zu dem Thema angezeigt." Dabei interessiert mich das Thema nicht so sehr - ich finde aber gut, dass sich darum eine Person sehr leidenschaftlich kümmert, die ich mag.
Gleichzeitig hilft ein Like dann ja doch auch bei der Reichweite, wenn der Post in den Trends landet. Aber es hat keinen Einfluss auf meine Timeline.

I was thinking about a #Raspberrypi as a basis, but I never had one and am unsure. Are there good cases and options to add enough storage? Or would I still need a NAS? Jellyfin recommends against it because it lacks power for transcoding, but I think my music should play well enough with direct play? Or should I think about something like a #NUC instead? One thing I love about #jujutsu which #git misses is the ability to treat sub repos as full fledged forks. This is naturally comfortable to work with, especially when you need to make changes along with other modules then push them back upstream.
The closest thing I get is using ingydotnet/git-subrepo and push module changes to a local clone dir (yes you can do that with git). Then you can prepare it for PR to upstream.

I've dabbled in #rust and alot of my favorite projects these days are in Rust, like #niri I suck as an application developer. But backend stuff that nobody sees is my art. Because I'm an architect. If I need down to metal language, I use #pascal. For more backend-ey stuff I use #python because #javascript sucks, but I'm LOVING #lisp as a pocket knife that can do everything. But all these beautiful TUI apps are in Rust. They are just beautiful. And I avoid GUI apps when possible.

I'm currently looking for a way to put arbitrary machine-readable data snippets in my #Mastodon profile page. The "extra fields" would be exactly that, but they seem to be limited to 4, with a maximum of 255 characters. It seems like this is adjustable per instance, but the defaults are too limiting. Would anyone have other ideas? (Except putting in extra dATa chunks in the header PNG, I'll keep this as a hack of last resort 😈)
