To anyone like me who is not tech minded but on the fediverse, I urge you to discover the power of filters.
It has taken me two years or more to realise that 'no algorithm' means that you need to curate your feed. They are easy to use, but, my word, afterwards you have a much better time.
I find that there is so much repetition of the same message, whether it is pictures of cats, complainants about a right wing figure being racist, or the ongoing danger of covid. A simple filter on the common hashtags and, voilà, a much richer experience. I'm sure that there are other uses, but that works for me.
I'd also like to see more use of hashtags to aid discovery. I'd love it if the culture was to tag the name of anyone discussed. That way I could follow the names of obscure writers, thinkers and artists and find my people. That is as important as alttext for me.

Zwischen Hass und Hofierung: Wie Trump, Techkonzerne und Rechtsradikale unsere Demokratie gefährden
Nach einer Woche erholsamen Urlaubs, in der ich auch weitgehend offline war, komme ich wieder in der realen Nachrichtenwelt an, und natürlich gibt der Orange in Washington wieder Grund zum Kopfschütteln. Doch nicht nur der. Zeit für eine Wochenschau.
Der Fall Kirk und der Fall Trump
Es ist bestürzend, wie Donald Trump nach dem Mord an dem Charlie Kirk sofort wieder Hass säet und die „gewalttätige Linksradikale“ beschimpft, statt auf die Ermittlungsergebnisse zu warten und auszugleichen. Mit jedem politischen Attentat stirbt in Amerika etwas, das früher selbstverständlich schien: das Grundvertrauen in die Demokratie, schreibt Bastian Brauns. Das Signal, das Trump immer wieder setzt: Gewalt ist im Grunde erlaubt, solange sich die Wut gegen die „Richtigen“ richtet.
Bemerkenswert und lesenswert zum Thema der Newsletter von Jan Skudlarek. Wir müssen das, was MAGA, Trump und andere Rechtsradikale sagen und tun, scharf verurteilen und mit allen politischen und rechtlichen Mitteln bekämpfen, aber Spott, Häme oder mehr über den Tod eines Menschen sind unangebracht und unmenschlich.
Schön devot, die US-Tech-Bosse
Wenn man sich solche Äußerungen ansieht, wenn man sieht, wie das Militär in amerikanische Großstädte einzieht, ist es umso verwerflicher und unverständlicher, welche Schleimspur sich von den großen Techkonzernen bis ins Weiße Haus zieht. Beim Abendessen im Weißen Haus schleimen sich Amerikas Tech-Bosse bei Donald Trump ein – Apple, Meta, OpenAI, Microsoft und Co. huldigen US-Präsident Donald Trump bei einem Abendessen im Weißen Haus für seinen wirtschaftsfreundlichen Kurs und überbieten sich in den Versprechungen, die sie ihm machen. Der einzige fehlende Gast diesmal: Elon Musk. Übrigens hat auch Jeff Bezos von Amazon gefehlt.
Vergessene Krisenherde
Und ja, auch Microsoft-Boss Nadella war dabei. Microsoft fliegt auch hier unter dem Radar. Die Schlagzeilen deuten auf Zuckerberg und Konsorten, doch auch Microsoft ist ganz tief in gewissen Körperteilen von Trump. Die deutschen Politikerinnen und Politiker sollten sich das endlich bewusstmachen, wenn sie weiter Millionenaufträge nach Redmond vergeben. Es ist überfällig, dass wir unabhängiger werden.
Angesichts des russischen Terrors in der Ukraine, der blutigen Ereignisse in Gaza und Israel und latenten Ge-trump-els geraten manche Themen in Vergessenheit oder fristen ihr Dasein am Rand unserer Hirnrinde. Dazu gehören beispielsweise die Zustände in der Türkei, wo Erdogan und seine Schergen die Reste der Demokratie beerdigen und der Opposition hoffentlich nicht den Todesstoß versetzen, wie es T-Online schreibt.
Wir werden weiterhin nicht mehr in die Türkei fahren und gottseidank muss ich nicht eher wie früher ständig in die USA fliegen. Doch um ehrlich zu sein, eigentlich dürften wir auch nicht mehr nach Ägypten in den Urlaub fahren.
Die Türkei ist nur einer der Orte, die zu leicht in Vergessenheit geraten: Was ist mit den Frauen (und generell der Bevölkerung) im Iran? Was passiert in Afghanistan? Die Liste lässt sich wohl beliebig mit Problemen in anderen Regionen der Welt fortsetzen. Und auch innenpolitisch gibt es Grund zur Sorge angesichts des weiterhin Erstarkens der antidemokratischen und rechtsextremen AfD und ihres völkischen Gedankenguts.
Brauner Wolf im Schafspelz frisst Kreide
Der Vorstand der Campact, Dr. Felix Kolb, hat am 10. September 2025 eine sehr bewegende E-Mail an die Förderer des Vereins mit der Bitte um weitere Spenden geschickt. Der Campact e.V. organisiert Online-Kampagnen und setzt sich für den Schutz der Demokratie ein, finanziert durch unabhängige Spenden und unabhängig von Parteipolitik und Konzernen. Bitte nicht mit dem rechtsextremen und demokratiefeindlichen „Compact Magazin“ verwechseln.
Die E-Mail legt deutlich die Strategie der AfD offen, die wir alle durchschauen müssen: Die AfD kleidet ihren rechtsradikalen Wolf im Schafspelz und frisst rhetorisch Kreide – wie ihr 55-seitiger interner Masterplan mit dem Ziel „Alice ins Kanzleramt“ offenbart. In diesem Strategiepapier zeigt die Partei, wie sie mit bürgerlicher Fassade und zurückhaltender Sprache ihre menschenfeindlichen, völkischen, demokratiefeindlichen und rechtsextremen Inhalte verharmlost, um neue Wählergruppen zu gewinnen.
Genau wie Trump generiert sie eine Dauer-Empörung rund um Themen wie Migration oder Gendern. Ziel ist es, die politische Mitte zu spalten und die Brandmauer zur CDU/CSU zu durchbrechen, um so den Weg an die Macht, inklusive Regierungsbeteiligung mit Alice Weidel als Kanzlerin, zu ebnen. Hinter dem scheinbar gemäßigten Auftreten steckt eine klar rechtsextreme Agenda, die Demokratie und Freiheit bedroht. Campact klärt immer wieder darüber auf und ist auf Spenden angewiesen.
Was Live-Übersetzung bewirken könnte …
Angesichts solcher Themen erscheint die Apple Keynote, die gerade einmal mehr in der Medienlandschaft rauf und runter kommentiert wurde, sehr nebensächlich. Thomas Knüwer hat sich – wie viele andere – dazu geäußert. Insbesondere kommentiert er die Fähigkeit der neuen AirPods, Sprache simultan zu übersetzen, kritisch. Die positive Seite ist, dass wir im Urlaub ohne Kenntnisse der lokalen Sprache mit Einheimischen kommunizieren können. Eine negative Folge könnte sein, dass Leute keine Sprachen mehr lernen wollen. Ist ja nicht mehr nötig. Und dieser Satz ist für mich bemerkenswert, und wir sollten ihn im Gedächtnis behalten.
Technologie ist eben weit mehr als nur Geräte mit ihren Leistungsdaten und einem Preis. Sie sind die Verbindungsstücke zur Nervenbahn unserer Gesellschaft. Was sie technisch leisten, ist zweitrangig – viel spannender ist, was sie bewirken.

hmms, when entering a new open source project or doing something in a group where it's a small, niche or otherwise kinda delegated/separate/extended part of it, it feels wrong to like occupy the 'main' channels where all the serious goings-ons are.
Like they already have their dev community and inner circle, I almost would feel more comfortable ranting about my little side of things in the off-topic channels xD
Unless I'm formally or otherwise part of the dev inner circle, in which case I feel comfortable wherever.
I absolutely want to be transparent and communicative about my thinking and i do, but it can feel sometimes like my verbosity is a nuisance. I don't want it to "clog up" the main thread of work. I also do want people to be able to join in on what I'm doing ofc too if possible, but yeah, when it's not the focus it feels weird to be talking about it visibly ~ like old man rants at cloud about something no one cares about lol. Maybe it makes socially integrating difficult too... I wouldn't know I just act like im integrated until it ends up i am somehow someday; I can never certainly tell :P
Does anyone else feel this way, or are you good at integrating into the main thread of work, working silently or other?

I played the Remix Map of "Robot Wants Puppy," using the "In the Dark" mutator, which only allowed me to see a small area surrounding our robot protagonist.
This additional difficulty added challenge to the game.
