Was ich aber gefunden habe, war @readyforreview ein Podcast, der nochmal viel, viel nerdiger daherkommt, als die @mediathekperlen. Sandra (@sparsick) und Daniel (@danielzenzes) quatschen da eine geschlagene Spielfilmlänge (80 Minuten) lang über Zeug, von dem ich tatsächlich nur die Hälfte verstehe. Das macht aber gar nichts. Denn die Shownotes allein sind wirklich pures Link-Gold.

"Critics are slamming Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-Texas) new AI policy framework, which they claim would give the White House unprecedented authority to allow Big Tech companies to make "sweetheart" deals with the Trump administration to void laws designed to protect the public from reckless AI experiments.
Under the framework, Cruz calls for a "light-touch" regulatory approach to "advance American leadership" in AI and ensure that "American values" are at the heart of the world's leading technology—not Chinese values.
Unsurprisingly, the framework requires blocking "burdensome" state AI regulations, as well as foreign ones. Cruz unsuccessfully helped push for a similar decadelong moratorium on state AI laws as part of Republicans' "big beautiful" budget bill. And more recently, he lost a bid to punish states for regulating AI, ultimately voting against his own measure in the face of overwhelming bipartisan opposition.

"The conventional wisdom is that China is a rising hegemon eager to replace the United States, dominate international institutions, and re-create the liberal international order in its own image. Drawing on data from 12,000 articles and hundreds of speeches by Xi Jinping, to discern China's intentions we analyze three terms or phrases from Chinese rhetoric: “struggle” (斗争), “rise of the East, decline of the West” (东升西降), and “no intention to replace the United States” ((无意取代美国). Our findings indicate that China is a status quo power concerned with regime stability and is more inwardly focused than externally oriented. China's aims are unambiguous, enduring, and limited: It cares about its borders, sovereignty, and foreign economic relations. China's main concerns are almost all regional and related to parts of China that the rest of the region has agreed are Chinese—Hong Kong, Taiwan, Tibet, and Xinjiang. Our argument has three main implications. First, China does not pose the type of military threat that the conventional wisdom claims it does. Thus, a hostile U.S. military posture in the Pacific is unwise and may unnecessarily create tensions. Second, the two countries could cooperate on several overlooked issue areas. Third, the conventional view of China plays down the economic and diplomatic arenas that a war-fighting approach is unsuited to address."

"David Ellison, the media mogul who took over Paramount just last month, has already set his sights on another blockbuster deal: He wants to buy Warner Bros. Discovery.
Mr. Ellison is planning a bid for the company, which owns HBO, CNN and the Warner Bros. movie studio, according to three people with knowledge of the plans.
A merger of the two Hollywood giants would reshape the media industry, putting some of the most renowned news and entertainment brands under the same roof. It would unite two of the biggest movie studios and two of the most influential news networks, CBS News and CNN.
Warner Bros. Discovery is already reorganizing its media business. The company said this year that it would split its cable networks from its streaming and studio business, following a similar move at Comcast.
Mr. Ellison is interested in acquiring the entire company, in line with his strategy of doubling down on both streaming and traditional TV, the people with knowledge of the plans said. The bid would be made mostly in cash."

The corporate executives who participated in this orgy of greed were industrials who later offshored everything to China, such as Black & Decker. They were banks like Merrill Lynch who later gorged on mortgage backed securities and needed bailouts. They were health conglomerates like UnitedHealth Group, which gave its CEO Channing Wheeler 96,000 options at the post-9/11 quarterly low. Many of these firms, as they were paying off executives to ”retain” them, laid off workers while publicly setting up grants and charities for the victims of the tragedy.
On the political side, it wasn’t much better. With his immense popularity, George W. Bush enmeshed the U.S. in wars in the Middle East and passed a capital gains tax cut; he gutted the regulators that might have stopped the sordid behavior of corporate America. He even put former New Jersey Gov. Thomas Kean, who was on the compensation committee of UnitedHealth Group that backdated those options, onto the 9/11 commission to investigate intelligence failures.
This unethical group looting after 9/11 was a preview of corporate misbehavior. Over the next fifteen years, these guys would engineer the China shock, the financial crisis, systemic monopolization, the opioid crisis, and general corporate lawlessness. It’s why social media, whose polarizing algorithms tear us apart, never got regulated."
