Podczas dorocznej konferencji „Meta Connect” Mark Zuckerberg zaprezentował nową generację inteligentnych okularów, które zostały wyposażone w autorską sztuczną inteligencję.
Urządzenia, stworzone we współpracy z markami Ray-Ban i Oakley, mają być kolejnym krokiem w integracji AI z codziennym życiem użytkowników. Prezentacja flagowego modelu nie przebiegła jednak bez problemów technicznych.
Główną gwiazdą wydarzenia był model Meta Ray-Ban Display, wyposażony w kolorowy ekran o wysokiej rozdzielczości umieszczony w jednej z soczewek. Umożliwia on prowadzenie rozmów wideo i wyświetlanie powiadomień. Okulary posiadają również aparat o rozdzielczości 12 megapikseli. Nowością jest także tzw. „neuronowa opaska na nadgarstek”, która w parze z okularami pozwala na sterowanie funkcjami, takimi jak wysyłanie wiadomości, za pomocą drobnych gestów dłoni.
Chociaż Mark Zuckerberg nazwał nową technologię „ogromnym przełomem naukowym”, prezentacja na żywo nie ustrzegła się problemów. Podczas próby wykonania połączenia przez komunikator WhatsApp do okularów, system kilkukrotnie zawiódł.
„Nie wiem, co wam powiedzieć” – przyznał zakłopotany Zuckerberg do publiczności. „Ciągle coś psuję”. Mimo tej wpadki, szef Mety ma nadzieję, że nowa linia akcesoriów stanie się kluczową platformą dla integracji narzędzia Meta AI w życiu ludzi.
Analitycy, cytowani przez BBC, sugerują, że inteligentne okulary mają większe szanse na komercyjny sukces niż wielomiliardowy projekt Metaverse. „W przeciwieństwie do gogli VR, okulary są codziennym, niekrępującym formatem” – zauważa Mike Proulx, dyrektor ds. badań w firmie Forrester cytowany przez serwis BBC.
Wskazuje jednak, że to na Mecie spoczywa ciężar przekonania użytkowników, że korzyści płynące z nowej technologii przewyższają jej wysoki koszt. Flagowy model Display ma kosztować 799 dolarów, czyli kilkaset dolarów więcej niż obecna generacja. Oprócz niego zaprezentowano także sportowy model Oakley Meta Vanguard za 499 dolarów oraz drugą generację podstawowych okularów Ray-Ban Meta w cenie 379 dolarów.
Warto zaznaczyć, że premiera odbywa się w cieniu kontrowersji wokół wpływu produktów Mety na najmłodszych użytkowników. Jak donosi BBC, w dniu konferencji przed nowojorską siedzibą firmy protestowali aktywiści i rodziny ofiar samobójstw, domagając się lepszych zabezpieczeń dla dzieci.
Ponadto, w zeszłym tygodniu byli pracownicy Mety zeznali przed amerykańskim Senatem, że firma miała ukrywać potencjalne szkody dla dzieci wynikające z korzystania z jej produktów VR. Meta zaprzeczyła tym oskarżeniom, nazywając je „nonsensem”.

My current guess is that the impersonator just uses/used the email address for a scam, assuming that people would quickly check the sender's domain, see the university website, and believe that the sender was a legit representative of the university.

If a politician has committed so many violations of the law that he can expect to be charged, convicted, and imprisoned at the end of his presidency, he may attempt to remain president for the rest of his life, even though he is not permitted to do so. A habitual offender simply continues to engage in the same behavior.

Last week’s storm brought more than just dramatic skies and roaring waves — it also brought a reminder of the courage and skill of those who protect lives at sea. As I photographed the storm at sunset, I suddenly caught flashing lights from the corner of my eye. A large vessel stormed across the beach: the KNRM (Koninklijke Nederlandse Redding Maatschappij).
Within moments, the lifeboat hit the water, cutting through crashing waves with incredible force. The sheer power of the launch was breathtaking — in one frame, the ship burst through a backlit wave, sending a giant spray skyward, and in the next, it rose above the water as if weightless. To witness such a scene, and to capture it, felt like pure luck and timing.
The KNRM is staffed largely by volunteers, men and women who risk the elements to rescue others in need. Seeing them in action, even in training or readiness, is a striking reminder of the human dedication behind maritime safety.
These shots were taken with my Canon 5D Mark IV and Sigma 100–400mm, with the storm winds and salt spray making it as much a battle for my gear as for the lifeboat crew. Once again, cleaning up after the shoot was no small task — but moments like these are worth every grain of sand.

I followed them (see below) and kept getting this error:
