^ That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard today. It's not enough!
It’s not enough to simply be happy that people are using Signal because it offers end-to-end encryption. That alone does not guarantee safety or trust in the long run.
Why?
People were once misled into thinking WhatsApp was private and secure. That trust was broken. If the same happens with Signal, even fewer people will be willing to move on to a better platform next time.
Just look at how governments spend billions to convince people to vote — not to vote a certain way, but simply to keep them engaged in the process. Why? Because once people lose faith in a system, they stop participating. The same applies here.
Many people still use WhatsApp today, not because they trust it, but because their friends and families are on it. It becomes harder to break that cycle when people feel burned or misled again and again.
That’s why recommending Signal — just because it’s currently encrypted — isn’t good enough. We need to think long-term and advocate for platforms outside U.S. jurisdiction — beyond the reach of governments that are increasingly hostile to privacy, free speech, and civil liberties.
If you move your friends and family to Signal, and they end up feeling betrayed by yet another “secure” app, they might give up entirely. Maybe you’ll keep moving on, but most people won’t.
Being happy just because people are using encrypted apps isn’t enough. We must guide them toward platforms that won’t betray their trust in the future — and that starts by choosing ones that operate outside authoritarian-leaning regimes.
The product or service you recommend to your friends and family should not be based in China, USA, or Russia.
You need to think long-term, because the governments that have oppressed — or would oppress — freedom of speech and privacy most certainly do think long-term.

"What once could have been a moment of unity following Kirk’s death quickly gave way to polarization, like seemingly everything in our politics does. Bitter comments from people offended by Kirk’s life’s work collided with anti-free speech attitudes and actions by the Trump administration and its constituents, dashing any hopes of national reconciliation following the death of the late activist.
But there is no reason why we as Americans have to be caught up in the same polarization following Kirk’s passing — or the passing of any deeply controversial political figure.
In a follow up piece, Klein told his readers that he ended up grieving for Kirk “because I recognize some commonality with him. He was murdered for participating in our politics. Somewhere beyond how much divided us, there was something that bonded us, too. Some effort to change this country in ways that we think are good.”
I think in my many years of reading Klein, this is probably the most challenging idea he has ever presented to his readers.
There are people out there who think completely different from you.
They advocate for things you find disturbing and unacceptable.
Yet they still think they are doing the right thing, just as much as you think you’re doing the right thing.
That doesn’t mean that they’re right. But in their minds, they may be no more evil than you think you are.
Maturity may mean being able to hold both of those truths in your head at the same time."

I have been racking my brains about an old tobacco I had bought one time some where around 1997-2001 In Gainesville FL, cant remember where other than it was a tobacco store, the Tin was like a 14-18oz tin, solid white with yellow lettering a yellow band around it, and it had a Bull dog on the tin, the tobacco was more natural and looked like chunky corncob pieces and it smoked very similar to Granger, anyways memory lane and all that, its been racking my brain trying to remember the name and I cant seem to find any photos or knowledge of it any where, dam near an obsession at this point trying to put a name to something that most likely no longer exists, and could have been totally regional and limited run, no clue dont remember, wish I did, but finding the name may put one stirring memory to bed.
