Well sh*t. On the Fediverse, have you ever thought someone was annoying for being too lazy to scroll up a thread to read the context?
Welp, it turns or not all clients show all posts, but to make matters worse it may not be a bug. 🤔
As an example, my go-to mobile client Tusky appears to split threads when you change the audience. I could have swore it didn't do that, but at least one conversation I've been a part of only showed the "Follower-Only" posts, orphaning itself from the public thread.
😳... I'm embarrassed to have only now realized this. No doubt I've unnecessarily asked folks for details they assumed were a scroll up away. 🤦

Hmm, this is interesting... Someone apparently bought some (legit) Wordpress plugins, solely to put malware backdoors in those plugins!
(Having run a bunch of Wordpress sites in the past, I have zero trust in the software not being compromised, in general, somehow... so many times -- no plugins, all security patches installed -- those blogs all turned into pharmaceutical spamming websites overnight. 🤷 )

O excelente podcast Projets Libres (apresentado por Walid Nouh) publicou um novo episódio fascinante intitulado «Coloque privacidade no seu smartphone!», com Antoine (também conhecido como Fla, muito conhecido na Framasoft). O objetivo do programa era simples, benéfico e voltado para o grande público. O convidado queria explicar a diferença entre nossos computadores e nossos celulares no que diz respeito à coleta de dados e apresentar alternativas viáveis (como /e/OS, Ubuntu Touch, etc.) para escapar da vigilância do Google e da Apple.No entanto, essa bela iniciativa de divulgação foi rapidamente alvo de críticas no Mastodon pela conta oficial do projeto GrapheneOS. Uma reação virulenta, infelizmente habitual da parte deles, que merece uma análise para colocar as coisas em contexto.
Os elementos da polêmica — O que o GrapheneOS critica?
O GrapheneOS não mediu palavras, acusando veladamente o Projets Libres de desinformar seus ouvintes ao destacar sistemas como o /e/OS. Segundo eles, este último ofereceria uma privacidade extremamente medíocre e graves falhas de segurança em comparação com seu próprio sistema operacional móvel.
A equipe da GrapheneOS tem o mau hábito de atacar frontalmente outros sistemas operacionais alternativos (LineageOS, /e/OS, CalyxOS) sob o pretexto de que eles não respeitam seus padrões muito rígidos em matéria de segurança pura (prazos para aplicação de correções, uso do microG, política de sandboxing, etc.). Desta vez, na mira deles, um podcast culpado, aos olhos deles, por ter dado voz a um defensor de uma abordagem diferente da deles.
O ataque do GrapheneOS é injusto (e contraproducente)
Embora o GrapheneOS seja, sem dúvida, um sistema operacional relevante do ponto de vista técnico e de segurança, sua comunicação agressiva prejudica totalmente a causa do software livre. Antoine estava totalmente certo em sua abordagem.
Em primeiro lugar, há uma confusão entre segurança e privacidade. E esse é o ponto central do episódio, aliás muito bem explicado por Antoine. São dois conceitos bem distintos.
A #segurança (o modelo de ameaça do GrapheneOS) consiste em impedir que um invasor hackeie seu celular.
A #privacidade (o modelo do /e/OS) consiste em impedir que empresas, como o Google ou databrokers, traçem um perfil da sua vida cotidiana de forma invisível.
A imensa maioria dos usuários não é alvo da NSA ou de hackers estatais, mas do capitalismo de vigilância. Para essas pessoas, remover os serviços básicos do Google por meio do /e/OS já é uma vitória monumental.
Vamos falar agora sobre acessibilidade versus elitismo. No podcast, Antoine explica ter instalado o /e/OS para cerca de trinta pessoas: seus pais, suas avós, seus amigos. E funciona! O /e/OS pretende ser acessível ao grande público e pode ser instalado em dezenas de aparelhos reciclados ou recondicionados (como os Fairphone ou Samsung antigos).
Por outro lado, o GrapheneOS exigiu por muito tempo a compra paradoxal... de um Google Pixel (embora parcerias como a da Motorola estejam começando a mudar o jogo). Exigir que todos usem o #GrapheneOS é fechar a porta da emancipação digital para 95% da população.
Passemos agora à necessidade de benevolência no mundo do software livre (e Deus sabe que precisamos dela). Atacar um podcast comunitário francófono que se esforça para transcrever, explicar e popularizar as questões relacionadas aos #smartphones é extremamente tóxico. Walid faz um trabalho formidável ao destacar os bens comuns digitais, o open data e o código aberto. Desacreditar um episódio de uma hora simplesmente porque a solução técnica apresentada não é “a deles” é fruto de um espírito de clivagem exaustivo. O verdadeiro adversário é o modelo de extração de dados das GAFAM, não o podcaster que tenta ajudar seus ouvintes a se livrar dele.
Apoio ao Projets Libres!
O software livre precisa de desenvolvedores de elite, como os do GrapheneOS, para ampliar os limites da segurança tecnológica. Mas ele precisa igualmente de divulgadores como Antoine e de meios de comunicação como o Projets Libres para construir pontes com o grande público.
Só posso encorajá-los a ouvir este excelente episódio (não hesitem em deixar um comentário positivo ou 5 estrelas!). Não deixemos que a pureza militante ou a toxicidade das redes sociais abafem a voz daqueles que promovem as liberdades digitais no dia a dia, de forma inclusiva e pragmática.

I am a #softwaredeveloper and I read some posts about #Jujutsu (example here: https://steveklabnik.github.io/jujutsu-tutorial/introduction/what-is-jj-and-why-should-i-care.html). It is a wrapper around #git. The tutorial claims that is more simple and the site of Jujutsu itself aims for one interface to more DVCS systems. I do not see the benefits if all companies I work for use git. Learning a new tool costs too much time. So I ask the internet, is it truly better?
