From a technical standpoint, the #fediverse is great. But it’s highly immature and for some it is toxic.

Mastodon's Inherent Resilience
Another aspect of this #Bluesky crash that deserves attention is resilience and defensibility.
One of the key characteristics about the design of the internet all the way back to it's DARPA inception is an ability to withstand local service disruptions as well as attacks on its infrastructure.
Mastodon's ActivityPub architecture is like that. It was designed from the start to be resilient with individual nodes on the network isolated and completely independent.

#Pixelfed 's federation seems buggy at best (worse than mastodon). I tried from multiple instances and it never seems to work quite right. Additionally, at least the todon instance seems to have some bug preventing me from filling out my profile.
Overall seems like this software needs to cook a little longer, but the ui and feature set already feel good.

"Under two legal authorities — Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, as well as Executive Order 12333 — U.S. intelligence agencies claim vast authority to target those overseas for surveillance. The executive order is especially broad, allowing bulk surveillance of foreign communications.
In theory, these surveillance powers are not supposed to be used to spy on Americans. But in practice, we know that under these authorities, the U.S. collects Americans’ data, such as their communications with foreigners. Under current law, it can then search that data without a warrant.
Recently, six legislators have also alerted the public to another way the government may be using its foreign surveillance powers to spy on Americans. In March, the lawmakers wrote a letter to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, asking her to clarify whether using a VPN could subject Americans to warrantless government surveillance.
The problem, as the letter points out, is that it’s not always readily apparent whether VPN traffic is coming from an American or someone abroad. This raises the question: How does the intelligence community currently handle the data of Americans using VPNs?
The lawmakers’ letter notes that the government has taken the position that data of unknown origin should be treated as foreign and, as a result, “subject to few privacy protections.” In other words, the government may be treating all VPN users as “foreign,” exposing Americans using VPNs to government surveillance.

That's why one of their team members announced it was s DDOS then retracted it. They put some logs into a chatbot that concluded DDOS because that's most likely when someone asks about server logs and doesn't know better to tell the difference between internal and external IPs.

Warning for #NixOS users out there:
The new systemd intird was submitted to NixOS unstable and is now the default as of a few days ago. I discovered the hard way that if you have the https://github.com/FlameFlag/nixcord flake in your configuration after updating your flakes and rebuild, you'll be unable to properly boot.
After spending time with the people working on NixOS's systemd, we discovered that there's an activation script that nixcord uses that causes the problem.
So the only solutions are to disable the systemd initrd (which will be the default in unstable and the next release of NixOS), or disable Nixcord.

Yesterday I opened a bug report on Laravel (the framework) and today somebody made a PR fixing this bug which is clearly AI generated (the fix is ok, because it was simple enough, but the description stinks of AI) and now *I* feel dirty.
They also copied the test I provided as proof of the bug.
