"These developments point to a deeper structural reality, that the US national growth model is increasingly organised around a triangular system between private credit financing, AI infrastructure, and military demand. The financial and real economic fragility of which the private credit liquidity crisis is a symptom, is intersecting and converging with AI in structurally significant ways. While disrupting the software services universe, AI is absorbing large sums of capital for investments in chip production, data centres and related infrastructure (including in requirements such as land, energy sources, cooling systems, and computing capacity). A significant share of that investment is being funded with credit from private credit vehicles. It is now emerging that the hype around AI, driven by the surging demand for high-end chips produced by ‘market-favourite’ Nvidia and newer entrants like AMD, is now being questioned by the lack-lustre returns from deployment of AI by downstream businesses. While some firms do record revenue growth from AI use or deployment, the investment needed is proving to be difficult to justify for many others. So, the demand and revenue growth projections implicit in the rising valuations of AI firms themselves increasingly appear to be driven by hype rather than reasoned, evidence-backed judgements."

"Iranian leaders have portrayed the current cease-fire as a victory against an overwhelming U.S. and Israeli onslaught. But they now face a towering postwar reconstruction challenge that is putting pressure on them to negotiate for sanctions relief.
The U.S. and Israel hit at least 17,000 targets over five weeks of war, including factories; rail, road and port infrastructure; government buildings; and military facilities. Iranian state media put the cost to rebuild at $270 billion, though analysts said it was too early for an estimate as the impact of the damage filters through the economy.

Rebuilding will be complicated by the interlocking nature of the damage done by attacks aimed at dragging out the country’s road to recovery. The air campaign not only hit infrastructure but the facilities producing material such as steel that is needed to repair it and operations such as petrochemicals that bring in the foreign currency to pay for the work.

The physical damage adds to an economic crisis that was already so severe it sparked mass protests that shook the country around the new year. While Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz and ability to hit targets across the Gulf have given it leverage in talks with the U.S., the scale of the necessary rebuilding limits its room to maneuver.

“Iran insiders are rumbling about the looming economic catastrophe if Washington does not grant sanctions relief that would unlock prospects for economic recovery,” said Burcu Ozcelik, senior research fellow with the London-based Royal United Services Institute think tank. “Without the prospect of economic recovery, regime survival beyond the short term will face sustained structural and popular pressure.”

The first round of talks between the U.S. and Iran in Islamabad ended in a deadlock. But both sides have indicated they have some room for compromise, including around the core issue of uranium enrichment..."

So I ran into an unexpected and suddenly new issue with my #friendica today, it was all of a sudden killing my bin/console jetstream and claiming [Error] Invalid opcode '12' provided, knowing I had done no recent work to my #node codebase, I reached out to my hosting providers tech support, which albeit they are really amazing, they were stumped, it would appear #cloudlinux pushed an update on April 14, 2006 that was significant to the ALT-PHP 8.5 stack specifically to fix path-traversal issues and CageFS isolation for PHP-FPM, however after a few hours in which I had put my instance in full maintenance lockdown, they were still trying to figure out the issue and had to put in their own support request to cloudlinux and told me they would let me know when they have more info, so I re-engaged my instance and of course the issue is still there, so then I have to create a script that runs via cron, to get this check that jetstream is dead or alive if dead it starts it, and it runs every 60seconds because we are still experiencing the ghost kill with [Error] Invalid opcode '12' provided, I swear my instance is built with bailing wire and duct tape, but boy it sure gets up and moves like a starship, the scariest thing at the moment is, I really have no idea what I am doing, I search a little code a little, try a little, and somehow I get it going, if I ever catch on to what I am doing, I may just have to write a book, but for now, I am making a totally random post about my #fediverse adventures in #programing, with #friendica;

This may be a technical matter, but it also exposes that the entire network can be taken down. There is good reason to distrust their VC crypto owners, but they are also clearly vulnerable to outside interference.

At the very least, media should establish Mastodon accounts on the public social media Fediverse as a backup.
