La instancia mastodon.social sufrió un ataque de denegación de servicio distribuido que impactó directamente en la experiencia de los usuarios, generando interrupciones en funciones críticas. Entre las molestias reportadas se encuentran la imposibilidad de publicar nuevos estados (toots), fallos al intentar impulsar publicaciones de terceros (boosts) y errores de carga al acceder a las cuentas personales. Estas degradaciones se manifestaron como latencias extremas en la interfaz web y errores de conexión en las aplicaciones móviles, impidiendo la interacción normal dentro del ecosistema federado durante el periodo de mayor intensidad del tráfico malicioso.

El equipo de administración de la instancia activó protocolos de emergencia consistentes en el despliegue de filtros de mitigación y reglas de firewall dinámicas para segregar el tráfico legítimo de las solicitudes automatizadas del ataque.
