End-to-End Storage Drive Analytics Platform Complete! 🚀
Spent the past weeks on my Data Engineering Zoomcamp final project. Excited to share an end-to-end platform analyzing Backblaze hard drive data to bridge enterprise telemetry and consumer accessibility.
The pipeline ingests daily SMART snapshots into GCS, builds a star schema with dbt, and serves insights via Streamlit dashboard showing failure rates by brand and model. Infrastructure is managed with Terraform; the warehouse was optimized using partitioning to improve query performance.
To increase accessibility, switching to open-source/free-ish tools so anyone can dive in without a cloud signup (and plus my trial expired 🙈). My goal is providing drive reliability data so creators, homelabbers, business, or casual users feel informed about their next storage purchase. 😊

Quit bitching about #BlueSky being "poorly decentralized"! Or at least hold-off until you actually understand the cost of running a #Mastodon instance.
I'm freeloading on an instance that costs ~$700 a month to run, and from our public feed I predict we only have a few hundred active users. FEW HUNDRED, not whatever metric ass-ton BlueSky has!
~$700 a month is what I used to pay for rent. That's not a pittance. We've also had a head start. People used to mock Mastodon for having outages too, but now look at us, all of us on different instances and the sh*t still works.
Regardless of what BlueSky pays to keep their network up, I think it's a disgrace that Mastodon instances cost so much. I think we should be more ashamed of that.
A 1-3 user AtProto PDS can run on a $2 VPS or a low-spec/no-spec Raspberry Pi. By itself a PDS is useless, but IMO that's a price almost anyone could afford for sovereignty. Given relative post volume I cost my Mastodon host more than that, and I'm a freeloader. 🤷

Hoy fuimos al liceo a dejar a mi hija y resulta que otro boludito escribio en el baño que hoy hay tiroteo y eso... entonces llamaron a la policia, empezaron con el protocolo... nunca avisaron que se suspendian las clases... nos enteramos cuando llegamos que estaban suspendidas las clases. Cuando pregunte porque no habian mandado aviso, dijeron que los adscriptos empezaron a avisar a los alumnos y mapadres y que el whatsapp que usan, llego al limite de envios y a la mitad no le pudieron avisar... El efecto de red es tan pero tan grande, que inclusive con estas limitaciones que le complican la vida a todo el mundo... lo aceptan asi como es y nadie se queja #whatsapp #xmpp #efectodered #networkeffect #uruguay

#Fediverse friends! First of all, thank you to all of you who chimed in with your favorite email providers. You’ve given me a lot to think about!
Now I have another challenge for the hive mind, and this one may be a wee bit trickier: cloud storage providers!
Currently I use OneDrive, but I really, really want to move away from that for a whole bunch of reasons. Whatever replaces it needs to support iOS, Linux, Mac, and Windows, as I use all of these platforms. End-to-end encryption would be nice, but it isn’t an absolute requirement in my case.
It looks like pCloud fits the bill, but I’ve heard next to nothing about it. To those of you who use it, how are you finding it? Also open to other suggestions!
Please note: self-hosting is NOT an option. I have neither the time nor the patience for that.

used. But I learned "pipenv" tool for Python project
dependencies management and more about Mlflow.
I updated my small script (replace depricated libraries)
that just add hashes to requirements.txt
