1) Идентификация с аудиторией
Классический меха-аниме делался под подростков. Проще всего «вшить» зрителя в историю, когда герой — его ровесник. Отсюда школьники в кабине: ты сразу на месте пилота, без дистанции «взрослый профессионал где-то там».
2) Контраст «обычный → экстраординарный»
Обычная школьная жизнь vs гигантские роботы и война — сильный драматический рычаг. Резкий переход усиливает ставки и делает каждую сцену напряжённее.
3) Троп «избранного/совместимости»
Во многих сеттингах управление мехой завязано на редкую совместимость (психологическую, биологическую, «синхронизацию»). Это удобно: можно обосновать, почему именно этот персонаж, а не обученный ас.
4) Жанровые конвенции и наследие
После влияния вроде Mobile Suit Gundam и особенно Neon Genesis Evangelion схема закрепилась: молодые пилоты, давление ответственности, травмы взросления. Дальше это просто повторяли и варьировали.
5) Коммерция и фан-сервис
Школьные персонажи проще «упаковать» в мерч, романтические линии, повседневные сцены. Это расширяет аудиторию и удерживает внимание между боями.
6) Гендерный аспект (почему именно девочки)
Либо игра на контрасте «хрупкость ↔ разрушительная мощь», либо попытка расширить каст и аудиторию. Плюс индустрия не чужда фан-сервису — это тоже фактор, как ни крути.
Если мерить «по уму», это, конечно, нелепо: сложнейшую боевую платформу должны водить обученные пилоты с годами подготовки. Но в логике жанра это сознательное упрощение ради эмоций и узнаваемых архетипов.
