Ein bisschen Austausch in der Blogosphäre: Das Bloghexen-Forum ruft zum Bloggerschnack im April unter dem Motto Wie ich meinen Blog führe (Teil 1): Software & Tools auf. Dann mal hier meine Umgebung:
WordPress.com Premium – bequem statt bastelnd
Ich blogge auf Basis von WordPress.com. Das ist die von Automattic selbst gehostete Instanz, für die ich mich vor vielen Jahren entschieden habe, weil es einfach bequem ist. Automattic bietet verschiedene Tarife mit unterschiedlichem Funktionsumfang an. Ich nutze die Premium-Version, immer gebucht für ein Jahr für 96 €. Reicht mir im Funktionsumfang wegen:
- freier Themenwahl,
- eigener Domain,
- keiner Werbung von WordPress und
- Unterstützung des Fediverse über ActivityPub.
Ich nehme in Kauf, dass ich keine PlugIns installieren, kein SEO optimieren kann und auch nicht den vollen Funktionsumfang von JetPack habe. Auf Augenhöhe mit wordpress.org-basierten Instanzen ist wohl der Business-Tarif, der im Jahr 175 € kosten würde.
Gutenberg und Safari – der Alltag am Mac
Meine Texte bearbeite ich meist direkt im Gutenberg-Editor von WordPress.com, fast nie in Libre Office oder einem anderen Editor auf meinem Mac.
Als Browser nutze ich vor allem Safari, nachdem Apple seinen eigenen Passwort-Manager herausgebracht hat und ich mein Abonnement von 1Password beenden konnte. Vorher nutzte ich lange Jahre Firefox, der unterdessen auch mit dem Apple Passwort-Manager arbeitet. Vielleicht kehre ich bei Gelegenheit zurück.
Vom Stock-Bild zur KI: Meine Titelbilder heute
Systeme der künstlichen Intelligenz (Large Language Models) sind bei mir für ganz unterschiedliche Dinge im Einsatz. Seit geraumer Zeit versehe ich meine Blogbeiträge mit Titelbildern. Waren es in der Vergangenheit Stock-Bilder, die unter Creative Commons frei genutzt werden durften, bin ich nun schon länger zu KI-generierten Bildern gewechselt. Dort bin ich von DALL·E auf Ideogram und jetzt wieder den Bildgenerator von ChatGPT gewechselt. Die Bilder werden nach einem Style Guide erstellt, den ich im Dialog mit ChatGPT nach und nach entwickelt habe.
KI als Schreibassistent – hilfreich, aber mit Vorsicht
Beim Texten nimmt die KI eine assistierende Funktion ein. Large Language Models können durchaus Texte vorschlagen. Jedoch ist meine Erfahrung, dass man diese auf jeden Fall noch stark überarbeiten und prüfen muss. Überarbeiten, um wirklich den eigenen Stil wiederzufinden, und prüfen, um Fehler und Halluzinationen zu vermeiden. Auch heute noch schießen alle LLMs regelmäßig dicke Böcke.
Die größte Rolle spielen die Modelle bei der Weiterverarbeitung der Transkripte unseres Podcasts #9vor9. Dort lasse ich mir Textvorschläge auf Basis des Transkripts unterbreiten, die ich dann in aller Regel noch deutlich überarbeite. Hier hatte ich in den vergangenen Monaten mit Le Chat von Mistral AI die besten Ergebnisse.
Erwähnen muss ich noch WSKI, die auf ChatGPT basierende Wolf-Schneider-KI-Initiative – ein deutscher Ansatz, KI-Systeme an klarer, verständlicher und journalistisch sauberer Sprache nach dem Vorbild von Wolf Schneider auszurichten. Hier lasse ich Texte regelmäßig prüfen.
Mein aktueller Selbstversuch: Claude als Sparringpartner
Seit wenigen Wochen experimentiere ich mit Claude von Anthropic, mit dem ich einen kompletten redaktionellen Workflow abgebildet habe. Claude prüft dabei Texte, unterbreitet mir Vorschläge für Überschriften, Zwischenüberschriften, Tags oder den WordPress-Teaser. Dabei kommt mir der existierende Konnektor zwischen Claude und WordPress.com zugute, über den ich Daten lesen und schreiben kann.
Ich habe Claude auch zur Erstellung eines redaktionellen Kalenders getestet und die Ergebnisse waren erstaunlich gut. Claude war in der Lage, mir Themenvorschläge zu unterbreiten, beispielsweise zu meiner Serie #TenYearsAfter, in der ich darauf zurückblicke, was ich so vor 10 Jahren geschrieben habe. Aber um es nochmals klar zu sagen: Diese Nutzung befindet sich noch im Experimentierstadium.
Meine Erfahrung bis zum heutigen Zeitpunkt ist, dass man Systeme der Künstlichen Intelligenz durchaus als Sparringpartner nutzen kann und nutzen sollte. Dies geht von der Recherche und Ideenfindung über die Grammatik- und Rechtschreibprüfung bis zur Diskussion der argumentativen Linie und Logik eines Beitrags. Ich habe das Gefühl, dass man dadurch in iterativen Prozessen bessere Blogbeiträge erstellen kann.
Voilà, das sind eigentlich die Software & Tools, die bei mir rund um das Bloggen im Einsatz sind.

After lots of trial-and-error, giving up a while ago, and recently reattempting it, I finally got @ente running on my VPS! So now I have a way to share photos we take (on trips, etc) as albums and in a way that they're publicly available. Even better, I set up an object storage backend (like I did with @peertube) so that storage costs are pretty much as cheap as they can be (thanks Backblaze B2!).

Just got my chronic open-source fever again. When that happens, I go on hours trying to figure out how to replace "evil" services with open-source ones. Last time I deleted Instagram, Threads, X, and Linkedin, and moved here intead. This time trying to figure out whether it's time to ditch Google and move to Proton. I am not sure it's quite there yet for me but getting close. Any thoughts?

I've been reading a critique of pragmatism as opposed to dogmatism. It's interesting how arguments put forward make sense in #freesoftware vs #OpenSource debate.
The argument is that pragmatism has wide appeal at the cost of ever changing foundation that can result in paradoxes such as big corporate embrace of OSS only to tighten the grip on its users even more. On the other side you have strong dogmatic principles that are hard to subvert but that can lead to fanatism.
