New gas projects linked to a mere eleven data center campuses around the US have the potential to create more greenhouse gases than the country of Morocco emitted in 2024.
Emissions estimates from air permit documents examined by WIRED show that these natural gas projects —which are being built to power data centers to serve some of the US’s most powerful LLM companies, including OpenAI, Meta {Facebook}, Microslop, and xAI —have the potential to
emit more than 129 million tons of greenhouse gases per year!
As tech companies race to secure massive power deals to build out hundreds of data centers across the country, these projects represent just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the potential climate cost of the LLM piramid scheme.
Michael Thomas, the founder of clean energy research firm Cleanview, has been tracking gas permits for data centers across the country. He calls behind-the-meter power “a crazy acceleration of emissions.”
“It’s almost like we thought we were on the downside of the Industrial Revolution, retiring coal and gas, and now we have a new hump where we’re going to rise,” he says. “That terrifies me in a lot of ways."
Microsoft, meanwhile, is reportedly looking into purchasing power from a Chevron-backed natural gas project in West Texas. That single project, according to its permit, could emit more than 11.5 million tons of greenhouse gases each year—more than the yearly emissions of the entire country of Jamaica.

The tl;dw (to-long;didn't-watch) is the image was larger than the Git post buffer size. The fix was to compress the image, which is something we are doing for the Weekly Dev Chat website. Another fix is to increase the Git post buffer size.

A Look Back at X-O Manowar #1 (1992)

Welcome back superhero enthusiasts, 1990s arts and culture enthusiasts, Valiant Comics fans and comic book collectors! Today we go back to the early 1990s to examine a key part of the Valiant Comics universe through a tale of X-O Manowar.
Valiant – under the banner of Voyager Communications – was established in 1989 by former Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Jim Shooter and Steven Massarsky. This happened following their failed attempt to acquire Marvel Comics. Early on, Valiant hired several creators from Marvel and together they brainstormed to create an all-new shared superhero comics universe which will have varied characters of originally creations as well as some licensed creations. In 1991, the company officially launched with titles of Magnus: Robot Fighter and Solar: Man of the Atom.
In 1992, the first wave of Valiant’s original intellectual properties were launched starting with Harbinger in January followed by X-O Manowar in February.
With those details laid down, here is a look back at X-O Manowar #1, published in 1992 by Valiant Comics with a story written by the late Jim Shooter and Steve Englehart with art by Barry Windsor-Smith.
The cover.Early story
The story begins inside an alien space ship traveling through deep space. A brave Visigoth warrior named Aric fights hard against Spider Aliens which he referred to as hard-skins. Even though he is naked and surrounded, he is determined to kill the aliens which have kept him as their slave and prisoner for many years.
Using the makeshift map marked by blood on his right palm, Aric makes his way through the ship until he finds a futuristic, metallic armor which puzzles him as he anticipated something useful in his desperate fight against the aliens. As a Spider Alien approaches him, Aric remembered the map giver advised him to take the ring which he does.
Suddenly, the armor moves to fit into him. Aric calls the armor a good skin and he realizes that it is stronger than fire-light. By instinct, Aric fires a powerful energy blast which not only kills two Spider Aliens but also damaged the hull of the space ship leading him into outer space.
When the space ship blows up near him, the armored Aric is pushed down into Earth’s atmosphere landing him on a snowy hill. He takes the armor off, leaves it behind and walks away fully naked. He still has the ring with him…
Quality
Even though he clearly has yet to fully master the use of the X-O armor, Aric is able to learn and adjust fast in a dangerous situation like this one.Reading this Valiant comic book is indeed a great experience and it has indeed aged well. Right from the start, Aric is the protagonist designed to lead readers to get immersed into the story, follow his experiences, learn from his views and discoveries, and experience his development.
The story Jim Shooter and Steve Englehart came up with had a really strong structure and the narrative moved at a consistent medium-pace which allowed readers to follow the developments and learn the details.
As the titular hero, Aric here is a man from the distant past of Earth who got abducted by aliens and spent time as a prisoner and a slave in space for a number of years (note: time on Earth moved faster due to time dilation) before finally being able to free himself using his bravery and the armor.
Aric was written to be a man out of time and in this comic book, you will see how he struggles to not only survive but also adjust to life in 20th century Earth. He no longer has his tribe and the ancient world he lived in has long passed away. With the ring still with him, Aric holds the key and the ability to control the armor, and this makes the people of Orb Industries (a company serving as a front of the Spider Aliens who turned out to be operating in Earth for centuries) bothered. As such, Orb sees Aric as prey (who tasted power with the armor) and they have so much resources to commit mass murder and destruction just to get to him.
The build-up of the tale gradually intensified as the narrative moved on. The good news here is that the pay-offs are very rewarding to see. The spectacle is a mix of explosive scenes, shooting and superhero action with a strong science fiction flavor.
Conclusion
Orb Industries has the armor and they know Aric has the ring.X-O Manowar #1 (1992) is absolutely a great comic to read and also one of the very best superhero introduction ever told. It has an adulterated tale that is believable and compelling to follow. By the time I reached the end of the story, Aric became a more relatable protagonist and I am convinced to follow the next issue. The story Shooter and Englehart came up with is indeed immersive and there Valiant shared universe itself became even more attractive to discover. There is no surprise that this comic book is one of the most significant comic book launches of Valiant.
Overall, X-O Manowar #1 (1992) is highly recommended!

Ibaraki Prefecture’s Plan On Giving Rewards For Reporting Illegal Foreign Workers To Take Effect On May 11
Even though controversy hounded it, the approved plan of Ibaraki Prefecture in Japan on rewarding those who report businesses hiring illegal foreign works will take effect on May 11, according to a news report by Kyodo News. Ibaraki Prefecture (population of around 2.9 million) is located northeast of Tokyo and it already has a high number of illegal foreign workers.

A controversial plan to reward people who report businesses hiring illegal foreign workers will take effect May 11 in a prefecture northeast of Tokyo, the local government said Wednesday.
Ibaraki Prefecture, which, as of 2024, had the highest number of illegal foreign workers among the country’s 47 prefectures, will report such employers to police after verifying the information. It will offer 10,000 yen ($63) if a tip leads to a case being opened.
Reports will be limited to businesses hiring foreign workers unlawfully, and the prefecture plans to issue guidelines, including not basing reports solely on individuals’ appearance or nationality.
Reports can be filed through the prefectural website by providing personal information such as name, address and phone number, and must include a copy of identification, such as a driver’s license, the prefecture said.

Vietnam’s New International Airport To Handle Most International Flights By 2027
In Vietnam, it is anticipated that most international flights currently handled by the old Tan Son Nhat International Airport (serving Ho Chi Minh City) will be moved to the new Long Thanh International Airport by next year, according to a news report by VnExpress. The said move will be gradual and it will start this year.

The Airports Corporation of Vietnam has proposed that international flights should move gradually from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh International Airport in neighboring Dong Nai Province starting this year.
According to the state-owned joint-stock company that manages 22 airports across Vietnam, including 10 international, the transition will make the under-construction Long Thanh a global aviation hub.
In the initial phase — from the start of Long Thanh’s commercial operations later this year to around March 2027 — all long-haul international flights will be moved from Tan Son Nhat airport in HCMC.
During this period Long Thanh will handle 19% of all international passengers in the Ho Chi Minh City market while Tan Son Nhat will continue to handle the rest.
In the next phase, from March 2027 through 2030, all international flights will steadily be shifted to Long Thanh, except for short-haul routes under 1,000 km operated by Vietnamese airlines.
By 2027 Long Thanh is expected to handle more than 90% of international passenger traffic.
After 2030 all international flights will operate from Long Thanh, laying the foundation for a major international transit hub.
Tan Son Nhat will then focus on domestic routes and non-scheduled international services, including charter flights.
Tan Son Nhat, until now the largest airport in Vietnam, handled 109,652 international flights last year, or 43% of the country’s total number.
The ACV has established Long Thanh International Airport as a first-tier subsidiary along with other units for cargo and fuel services.
It is also implementing workforce training programs, including on-site experience at Tan Son Nhat, to develop operational expertise ahead of the new airport’s launch.
It has signed a consultancy agreement with South Korea’s Incheon Airport Consortium, to support trial operations, the transition and traffic forecasting.

Mordfall Rickenbach: Bundesgerichtshof legt schriftliche Urteilsgründe vor.
Im Dezember erschoss und zerstückelte im südbadischen Rickenbach ein Kartoffeldeutscher einen Geflüchteten. Nach einem skandalös einseitigen Prozess, in welchem sich der für seine rechtsextreme Gesinnung bekannte Angeklagte, das Gericht und die lokale Staatsanwaltschaft auf einen billigen Deal einigten, war es die Schwester von Mahdi ben Nacer, die vor dem Bundesgerichtshof im Januar eine Aufhebung des Urteils erstritten hat.
Nach drei Monaten legte der BGH nun die Begründung für sein Urteil offen.
Wann die Neuauflage des Verfahrens vor dem Landgericht Waldshut-Tiengen beginnt, ist noch nicht bekannt.

I am disabled and Bipolar, on SSDI, I have severe anxiety and bipolar, PTSD, ADD/ADHD. I do not drive. I am poor. I struggle to make ends meet, and I have many unmet needs. I need help to get a home where I can keep until I die. I don’t want to worry about what I am going to eat, I don’t want to go to be hungry anymore, I don’t want to worry about the decline of my mental health, because of lack of care. My health is slowly but steadily declining. I have not had proper care for some time.
If I could raise ~$3 million in a rather short amount of time, I could obtain my own property and home, whether I buy a house and property or vacant property and build my forever home. My realistic ideal budget for property and home along with the necessary things that go with a home, is currently around $500,000 and that is very doable. But lets just say to create my forever home, furnish it stock it with food and all the stuff one needs to live, cost $1.5 million I would still have $1.5 million left in the bank which would give me $37,500 a year for the next 40 years of my life, which is an increase of $25,000 a year over my current $12,000 a year. Which would allow me to cover all my property taxes, utilities, maintenance, food and groceries and basic life costs, and not have to ever worry about what I am going to eat, or where I will sleep and for how long.
