It was fun to join a small workshop on Zoom about the basics of Mastodon and the Fediverse. Given that there is no centralized corporate marketing team and no algorithm for #Mastodon, #Pixelfed, or the Fedi in general, I think organizing these small workshops is the best way to build the community from the grassroots — each one teach one (or two, three, etc).

8 days, and they're right back where they started with discontinued software.
Mastodon Dot Cloud has upgraded to 4.3.22 which is the last 4.3.x branch and will be end of life in 8 days.
4.3.22 also has a few known documented security bugs. So once again, they're still using a version of Mastodon that is not completely secure.

Add the birth year too and it even shows you how old they get. Nice!

The reminder for all birthdays is fixed at 9am. You can change it, but only globally for every single birthday at once. No way to set different reminders for (1/3)

There was a little more to it saying I voted Plaid, etc., but I hope you'll agree it's entirely innocent, but someone with "Cymru" in their Bluesky handle commented on my comment writing...
"Trump ***** kids."
That was it. I haven't typed the word in the hope you won't think too deeply about it, but it was a pretty disgusting image to stick in my mind, let alone the mind that went into writing it. I challenged them and they said it was my fault due to my phrasing, and if they didn't write it someone else would have.
I told them comments like theirs was the reason I left Twitter. I had another comment from someone else in another post from an anonymous account which wasn't as revolting but still unnecessarily unpleasant, hiding away without revealing their identity.
I really don't want Bluesky to become like Twitter, but I think that ship has already sailed, I think it's already there!
I've received no obscene comments from posts on Mastodon you'll be pleased to read.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Am I being overly sensitive because I'm Autistic? When we're told repeatedly as children growing up that we're too sensitive when we're ridiculed and made fun, I'm not sure how to think and feel sometimes. @autistics

There are so many ways to use llms that subvert the status quo, so reminder that I have a standing offer to spend 4h on whatever problem you want to have me tackle with hopefully what shows what thoughtful use of llms can look like.
And you can be as fair or as “let me find the most ridiculous gotcha possible”, I will give it a good faith attempt. The only condition is that i get to use my current main languages go and typescript/javascript, because otherwise the whole exercise turns into “will I be able to orient myself in a language and ecosystem whose vocabulary and linguistic landscape I don’t know”. Or maybe that’s exactly what you want me try, in that case, fair too, but I find that a less interesting study case since I will mostly… not use llms to do that.

I had a couple of people complain that hosting videos on #PeerTube is bad with vague complaints about buffering issues. I can’t reproduce it.
Maybe some browsers don’t handle it well?
