"A month into the war in the Middle East, an unlikely shortage of an irreplaceable gas is looming over the global economy.
Helium is a gas that is odorless, colorless and lighter than air. It is also indispensable to manufacturing the computer chips that power artificial intelligence, an important driver of U.S. markets and economic growth.
A byproduct of natural gas processing, helium is produced mainly in the United States and Qatar. When output in Qatar was halted this month, it cut off roughly a third of the global supply. The outlook worsened last week after Iran struck Qatar’s largest liquefied natural gas facility, damaging helium production lines that could take years to rebuild.
Without helium, leading chip makers, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and South Korea’s Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, could struggle to keep production lines running, with cascading effects for semiconductor-powered devices from Apple’s iPhones to Nvidia’s A.I. servers.
Helium may be best known for keeping balloons afloat, but its industrial uses are far more consequential. As the coldest liquid on earth, it cools superconducting magnets in M.R.I. machines. A shortage could ripple far beyond chip making, affecting everything from scientific research to space travel.
Semiconductor companies rely on helium at multiple stages of chip manufacturing. As intricate machines etch tiny circuits onto thin wafers of silicon, helium cools them from below to maintain the right temperature. After the wafers are washed with chemicals, helium is used to flush out toxic residue."

"Judging by the metrics of conventional conflict, Iran is not faring well against the United States and Israel. Tehran has been preparing for this war for nearly four decades, since the new revolutionary government faced its first major military test in the Iran-Iraq War, which lasted from 1980 to 1988. And it is now executing a strategy that has managed to neutralize key U.S. and Israeli air defense batteries, severely damage U.S. military bases in the Persian Gulf, inflict substantial economic pain, and drive a wedge between the United States and its Gulf allies. The Iranian regime, in other words, is not just surviving the U.S. and Israeli bombardment. The serious economic and political problems it is creating for its adversaries are, on a strategic level, giving Iran the upper hand."

At this point, does anyone in the higher echelons of the Trump administration merit that description? Not that I can see. Conducting foreign policy is a difficult business, and no government gets everything right, but this administration commits own goals on a weekly basis while insisting that it is infallible.

Schon ziemlich krass, wie viel Arbeit mir #KI gerade abnimmt.
Ich telefoniere kurz zu einem Thema, lasse das Gespräch transkribieren und werfe das #Transkript dann in ein KI-Tool. Daraus entsteht direkt eine #Checkliste. Aufwand: unter 5 Minuten.
Im Job das Gleiche mit längeren #Meetings. Die KI schreibt mir zusammen, was besprochen wurde, wer welche Position vertritt und welche #Aufgaben daraus entstehen, inklusive Zuständigkeiten. Genau der Teil, der sonst ewig dauert.
Auch privat, zum Beispiel bei der #Immobiliensuche: Ich packe einfach alles in #ChatGPT rein. Anzeigen, Nachrichten, Termine, weitere #Kommunikation. Dadurch kann ich jederzeit zu jeder Immobilie Dinge auswerten, vergleichen oder vorbereiten lassen.
Ich lese mir das alles trotzdem noch durch und schicke nichts blind raus. Ich denke also schon noch selbst mit. Aber diese ganze #Fleissarbeit fällt weg. Notizen machen, Infos zusammenziehen, #Überblick behalten. Genau die Sachen, auf die ich nie wirklich Lust hatte. Oder wo mir die Disziplin fehlt.

I overheard an American, a Brit, a Swede, and a Dutch man talking about nudity and sex. The latter two were shocked that after decades, the other two had not seen their siblings naked or ever had sex in a nature setting as humanity has done since dawn of time.
The Brit said Daily Mail types would never approve, and laughed. The American had worked at the Daily Mail, though, and replied that those who frowned most loudly often indulged most, especially if they shielded by an establishment or religious hierarchy label.
The Brit then observed how, parallel to American religious prudism being pushed, human appearance has been warping there for decades so now many celebrities, paid influencers and bought politicians look like ridiculous blow up dolls. It is like a mascot of dysfunctionality.
I couldn't agree more. All that talk of pop-psychology empowerment and self acceptance, but it steered by way of narcissism to obvious self-rejection and hypocrisy 🤷♂️

As his breathless lifeless corpse lies stiff and in pain, after a sleepless night the old man drags himself out of a sunken bed of jagged thorny rocky shards of steel, like a zombie in the night unable to yet see, as the classical music plays he scrapes along the floor to prepare his coffee, his hands tremble as he pours in the water and counts the scoops of grind, fumbling he manages to plug in the percolator, as the coffee begins to perc he shuffles off to the toilet, his bowels bellow out in a fit of hungerous rage, in the mirror blankly staring into the unforgiving abyss, his hair and beard greasy and disheveled from a restless death, he disrobes and enters the shower, the steaming waters pour over him like boiling acid, offering no relief to his stiffness or pain as he brushes his teeth and washes out his hair and beard, his hands struggle to grasp the soap as he washes the foulness from his rotting corpse, exhausted from the ordeal, the old man dries himself off and carefully exits the shower, the arduous task of brushing out his hair and beard steal what little strength remained, stumbling back to his bed he struggles to pull on a clean undergarment, his socks pants and shoes, he pours himself a cup of coffee and gently packs his pipe with scraps of tobacco, he pulls on his coat and slips out the door, the morning is dark gray chilled and moist, as the world begins to wake not a single soul seems to care for the desperation and the hellish plight of existence the old man is forced to endure once again;

A serious portion of the US is so far gone, that they pray for WW3 as the Armageddon delivering them to eternal bliss in heaven.
When you subject people to hell on earth with the constant threats: unhoused, wage-slaving, broke with health bills, left for dead 'cause health us unaffordable, any shopping trip could end in a mass shooting... you don't need to be in a war zone under these conditions to be hypervigilant and seek refuge in a religious promise.
