I ordered a Pico Plasma 2350 W from #pimoroni to run a programable LED strip. Somehow, i actually ordered a Pico 2 Plus W basically a souped-up Pico 2. Realising my mistake, i promptly forgot to send it back and pondered a new project. Now 4 months later i have the Plasma 2350 W and an un-planned 2.8" 320 x 240 display for my un-planned Pico Plus 2 W, so i can do some un-planned projects instead of countless planned projects. Now need un-planned spare time to do them in.

It's really hard to colour correct the photo for this drawing but it's pretty close.

Blades stand in close clusters, meeting what arrives and drawing it into their hold. At times a fierce force drives through them, tearing across their length, pressing them low and setting them into motion as a single body before they gather and rise again. Sand gathers at their bases and settles, held in place as it accumulates and rises in small shifts.
Each movement is taken in and returned more slowly, the surface lifting and holding as stems remain anchored within it. Light passes across the uneven forms, slipping between upright lines and tracing the subtle growth they make together.
What reaches them is not lost but held, and the shape of the dune is built in the holding.

Разберём по слоям.

1. Доставка сообщений: не гарантия, а вероятность
Симптоматика знакома: — сообщения приходят пачками
— дублируются
— часть переписки просто исчезает
Это классический признак плохо настроенной eventual consistency. Судя по поведению, backend не обеспечивает строгую гарантию доставки (at-least-once / exactly-once), а плавает где-то между retry-логикой и race conditions.
Что это значит на практике: — повторная отправка → дубликаты
— сбой на клиенте → рассинхрон
— reconnect → “догоняющие” сообщения
Если система не умеет детерминированно разрешать конфликты — это не баг, это следствие архитектуры.

2. Push-уведомления: рассинхрон между слоями
Типичный кейс: — пуш пришёл → сообщения нет
— сообщение есть → пуша нет
— всё приходит через 10–15 минут
Основной подозреваемый — интеграция с Firebase Cloud Messaging.
Но проблема глубже: — нет единого источника истины (source of truth)
— пуш и сообщение живут в разных транзакционных контекстах
— отсутствует нормальная idempotency
В нормальной системе push — это просто триггер, а не отдельная сущность с собственной логикой.

3. Клиент: UI как узкое место
Фризы, дерганый скролл, зависания — это не “мелкие баги”, это сигнал:
— список сообщений плохо виртуализирован
— перерасчёт layout идёт на основном потоке
— есть memory leaks
Типичный стек-проблем: — RecyclerView захлёбывается на больших чатах
— битмапы не освобождаются
— кеширование сделано “на глаз”
В результате: UI начинает быть bottleneck быстрее, чем сеть.

4. Медиа: слабое место всех “быстрых” мессенджеров
Симптомы: — фото не уходят
— видео ломается
— загрузка зависает
Это почти всегда: — нестабильный upload (chunking / retry)
— проблемы на CDN
— отсутствие контроля целостности
Если нет нормального pipeline: encode → upload → verify → deliver
— медиа будет ломаться системно.

I feel like such an asshole when some completely innocent, presumably lovely person occasionally bulk spams one of the hashtags I'm following and I just feel an overwhelming need to mute them. - Tailscale, mosh and cmux with tmux sessions running on macbook.
- connect with blink via mosh into the tmux sessions
But this way i can start doing something on the mac, and switch to mobile at any time without loosing anything and having persistent running jobs, persistent workspaces.

Ich bin dem Tag neuhier lange gefolgt. Da leider wirklich alle auf mastodon.social landen, nervt mich das nur noch. Und ich habe es satt, darauf hinzuweisen, dass das Fediverse nicht Mastodon ist und schon gar nicht die Instanz mastodon.social.
Versteht mich nicht falsch, aber im Fediverse läuft etwas gehörig schief. Diese Instanz hat 3,2 Millionen Registrierungen, davon sind 287.624 Accounts monatlich aktiv. Das widerspricht massiv dem dezentralen Ansatz des Fediverse. Ich meine gezielt diese Instanz und nicht den Dienst Mastodon. Mittlerweile sind mir die Gründe auch egal.
