Just for kicks and giggles, I tried to use the account migration tool in Pixelfed to migrate to a new Mastodon account I created on my personal instance.
I added the alias of my Pixelfed account to the new Mastodon account, as one would do when migrating from one Mastodon instance to another Mastodon instance.
When I try to enter in the account information for the new Mastodon account in the Pixelfed account migration tool, I'm getting an obtuse error back:
The password is incorrect. Invalid account lookup response.

My opinion on #matrix is slowly turning around. For years I promoted it as the best #FOSS chat protocol that will eventually become the "glue that connects all communication platforms together".
But the frustration with various issues within Matrix ecosystem keeps growing:
- Still can't log into matrix.org account with #Nheko on #Linux. Getting Cloudflare timeout (Error 524). Is my IP cursed?

The social media verdict, which finally held Meta and YouTube accountable, means we could see a big shift away from the mainstream platforms. I hope this revives the internet's independence, where people created their own ways to connect with each other. And real-world fun will be back in style!
The early internet stood for freedom: it changed the world and brought people together in ways that weren't possible before. And we can still bring that back and do our own thing! We can build our own sites, share our own docs, and connect that with the real world. We have the tools: it's about how we use them. What's keeping us from building our own PDFs and sharing zines instead of relying on Facebook for marketing? There are so many creative possibilities once we think outside the box. ⚡
This is what I'm trying to do with art. I've got to use the internet sometimes to spread the word, but after that I try to find the in-person ways I can connect and get things going. I hope to do more of that this year!
Build community and find your people. Use the internet as the tool to share your vision and get things started, but then bring that offline into the real world.

Now that Catodon is finally rolling, I often think of the time when Firefish exploded, in 2023. There were waves of Twitter "refugees" coming for a while and, while most didn't stay, there was an enthusiasm that we're building something that will attract and welcome more and more people. Somewhere along the way, I feel that this vibe has died. And, on one hand, I know we're building something that has the foundations to be alive in the long run, and that's better than being a short term trend... on the other hand I sometimes miss that enthusiasm and optimism for fedi. Digitaler Wochenrückblick 29. März 2026 – No Way Back
Es gibt ein Sicherheitsrisiko in jedem Haushalt. Das ist die kleine Schachtel mit ein paar Drähten dran, für Telefon und Internet. Technikaffine Leserinnen und Leser kennen den Fachbegriff: Router. Meist steht bei uns Fritz.Box oder Speedlink drauf. In Nordamerika haben sie entdeckt:
„Böswillige Akteure haben Sicherheitslücken in im Ausland hergestellten Routern ausgenutzt, um amerikanische Haushalte anzugreifen, Netzwerke zu stören, Spionage zu betreiben und den Diebstahl geistigen Eigentums zu erleichtern. Im Ausland hergestellte Router waren zudem an den Cyberangriffen „Volt“, „Flax“ und „Salt Typhoon“ beteiligt, die auf wichtige US-Infrastruktur abzielen.“ lesen wir alles hier
Deshalb haben die Nordamerikaner Router aufgelistet, die nicht mehr eingeführt und verkauft werden dürfen. Wer Router im Land der Träume weiter dort verkaufen will, der muss erstmal eine Begründung liefern, „warum ein im Ausland hergestellter Router derzeit nicht in den Vereinigten Staaten hergestellt wird, einschließlich der Gründe für die Wahl dieser ausländischen Lieferanten und der Angabe, ob Alternativen bestehen.“
Die wollen die Dinger im Land selbst zusammenpusseln und warum das bedeuten soll, dass Router aus Nordamerika sicher sind, wissen sie selbst nicht. Jedenfalls findet sich in den Papieren nichts dazu.
Muss auch nicht, die FCC, das ist deren Zulassungsbehörde, nimmt nur Bezug auf die Sicherheitsstrategie 2025 von Donald Trump: „Die Vereinigten Staaten dürfen bei Kernkomponenten – von Rohstoffen über Bauteile bis hin zu Fertigprodukten –, die für die Verteidigung oder die Wirtschaft des Landes notwendig sind, niemals von einer ausländischen Macht abhängig sein. Wir müssen uns unseren eigenen unabhängigen und zuverlässigen Zugang zu den Gütern wieder sichern, die wir benötigen, um uns zu verteidigen und unsere Lebensweise zu bewahren.“
Das dient der Sicherheit und dem Wohlstand! Deshalb gibt es einen „Plan zur Produktion in den USA und zur Rückverlagerung“. Es wird gefordert: „Ein detaillierter, zeitgebundener Plan zur Einrichtung oder zum Ausbau der Produktion in den Vereinigten Staaten für den Router, für den der Antragsteller eine bedingte Zulassung beantragt, damit dieses Gerät die Voraussetzungen für eine FCC-Zulassung erfüllt“ – und die „Voraussetzungen für eine FCC-Zulassung“ sind eng an der Wetterbericht gekoppelt.
Brendan Carr, das ist der Vorsitzende der FCC (die „Federal Communications Commission“ zu deutsch etwa „Bundeskommunikationskommission“) bekennt sich zu der Maßnahme, betont aber, die FCC sei für das Verbot gar nicht zuständig, sondern nur für die Veröffentlichung und die Durchsetzung, der Befehl (!) dazu käme von einem nicht näher genannten Geheimdienst.
Irgendwie erinnert mich diese Argumentationskette an die Verteidigungslinie unserer Nazi-Schergen, die hatten auch keine Verantwortung für den Befehl, sie mussten ihn nur umsetzen. Das ist kein Vergleich, der Schaden ist geringer und kostet keine Menschenleben – aber die haben bei uns auch ganz klein angefangen.
Dies, im Gegensatz zu den digitalen Schäden, die Nordamerika im Sinne des eigenen Wohlstandes bei uns in Europa anrichtet, befeuert von Politkern, die Palantir für eine Segnung und die OpenSource für einen Kampfbegriff der „Fünften Kolonne“ halten.
Bleibt die Frage, ob es statthaft ist, das eigene geistige Eigentum zu schützen und der Vermarktung US-amerikanischer Dienste zu entziehen. In den letzten Wochenrückblicken konnten wir uns dieser subversiven Gedanken aktiv annähern. Deswegen wird dieser schleimige Labsal für Microsoft/Google nicht abreißen, nur weil wir nicht mehr mitmachen. Andererseits: wenn auch wir nichts machen, welche digitalen Vorbilder gibt es?
Was noch fehlt, war unser Adressbuch und den Kalender aus den Fängen Microsofts zu befreien. Natürlich ist das nicht völlig ohne Verluste möglich, dann Microsoft hat seine eigenen proprietären inkompatiblen Standards. Anders allerdings, als bei den Mails, muss nichts umgewurstet werden, es gibt den kleinsten gemeinsamen Nenner: in Outlook auf Datei: „Öffnen und Exportieren“ gehen und hernach das gewünschte Format wählen: CSV, das ist, kundige Leserinnen und Leser werden es zuerst erkennen, nichts anderes als ein Format für eine Tabellenkalkulation. Wer jetzt nicht gleich an Excel denkt, hat verstanden, was eine Tabellenkalkulation ist. Das müssen wir uns als eine Art ungeschliffenes Rohformat vorstellen, mehr geben die uns nicht.
Mit diesem Format können wir unseren Kalender und auch das Adressbuch bei mail.de importieren, einfach die Seite aufrufen und zum Import jeweils als Dateityp CSV wählen.
Der Kalender und das Adressbuch muss danach zwingend in Outlook gelöscht werden, hier gilt KEINE Ausrede, auch nicht zur Sicherheit ein paar Tage noch drin lassen, denn Du vergisst das garantiert! Wer sich absichern möchte, der darf höchstens noch einen Export im PST-Format wagen und gleich im Papierkorb seiner Festplatte ablegen, die wird nach ein paar Tagen automatisch gelöscht, Gefahr gebannt!
Unterm Strich ist das alles kein Hexenwerk, wenn ich weiß, wo meine Daten liegen und wie ich sie behandeln kann. Wer zurück möchte, wohin auch immer, der kann alle Daten ohne Verluste in Standardformaten exportieren und an anderem Ort importieren.
Eine solche Anleitung zu Selbsthilfe in einem Medium zur politisch-philosophischen Erbauung mag auf den ersten Blick Irritation auslösen, was aber nicht davon abhalten sollte, einmal selbst aktiv zu werden. Oder wollen wir weiter einer elegischen Weltsicht folgen, damit wir nichts ändern müssen? Nur zu, auch das verursacht zuerst keinerlei körperlichen Schmerzen.
