When I switched jobs ~5 months ago I thought I was going to significantly increase my open source contributions with the time I've gained.
Now I found myself using that time embedded with a youth program and trying to learn how to counsel teens for depression, conflict resolution, etc.
If you can't contribute to #OpenSource or don't want to evangelize #FOSS, remember the whole point is people and there's plenty of need that you can help with if you open your eyes and look.

Instead of argparse.FileType, use pathlib.Path
The argparse module's FileType is deprecated (as of Python 3.14).
It has known issues: no newline argument accepted, encourages not using a context manager, etc.
Instead of argparse.FileType you should use pathlib.Path.
Using "type=Path" will auto-convert given arguments to pathlib.Path objects.
That way all command-line-provided file paths will turn into pathlib.Path objects automatically!

in #Friendica, for instance, the GUI specifically supports this, but so far now that i've again returned to my blahajzone account, i've not solved this.
the only way i can think, is super-duper-NOT-efficient; go to the page showing all my Follows, then one by one open their popup window & inspect their List setting, to see if i've already allotted them or not. that would be ok for half a dozen Follows, but is frankly a pretty lousy proposition for hundreds.
