Listening to three speeches today from National leaders. I was struck by Australia's PM on the radio; Short message, outlined the problems, talked of solutions with resolve. The next, a translated speech from a Iranian TV broadcast. The third, a rambling, indecisive mess of ideas.
The last leader has no idea the rest of the world is joining forces to resolve the shit-show the #USA has created and routing around them.

On Tuesday, the felon told reporters that he did not see a need to take action to open the strait. "When we leave the strait will automatically open," Trump claimed in a conversation with the New York Post. "I don’t think about it, to be honest." He added in a social media post that other nations could "go get their own oil" from the waterway.
On Wednesday, he resumed Monday's pledge to use #US military force to make #Iran give up control of the waterway. "We will consider [ceasefire] when Hormuz Strait is open, free & clear. Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages" Trump pledged, leaving the timetable open for an extended US intervention. Separately, he told reporters that the US would be leaving the conflict and "it doesn't matter if they come to the table or not."
Wednesday evening more chaos "When this conflict is over, the Strait of Hormuz will open up naturally. It will just open up naturally."

I'm trying to get more familiar with async in #python so was trying to figure out how to set up a subprocess pipeline like I have in some sync scripts. The trick was noticing that asyncio.subprocess.PIPE sets up a StreamReader/Writer instead of an actual pipe so you can't pass stdout to stdin. You have to create fds with os.pipe(). asyncio shouldn't have reused PIPE to mean something else IMO. (Having StreamReader/Writer is a cool feature of asyncio.)

I’ve come across the theory from others online that advertising and AI companies are increasingly unable to identify real people to justify their ad pricing for real eyeballs. Therefore, these safety pushes to restrict social media use for children under the age of 16 (or whatever arbitrary figure) are actually terrifying psychological gambits by US AI and social media companies to get caring parents to identify their children as real children to assist with the ad targeting.
With the discovery by parents and kids out of San Franscisco that their so-called safety group is actually funded by the wolf itself, Canadians have to be wondering if we’re caught up in the same psychological operations.

In Australia, it’s not even certain the so-called ban on social media can even be achieved. But, the US social media companies have already adapted their targeting.
I’ve come across the theory from others online that advertising and AI companies are increasingly unable to identify real people to justify their ad pricing for real eyeballs. In mid-March, organizers for child safety groups across the country received emails from an organization called the Parents & Kids Safe AI Coalition, asking if they would endorse its list of policy priorities. The listed principles for AI regulation included vague but fairly uncontroversial suggestions such as age verification, parental controls, and a prohibition on targeting advertising toward kids. “We believe it is important to demonstrate broad, visible support from parents, educators, community groups, and child-advocacy organizations to make clear that families expect action on AI this year,” some of the emails said.
What many of them did not state was that the Parents & Kids Safe AI Coalition was funded entirely by OpenAI, the world’s most popular AI chatbot company. The principles it was asking nonprofits to endorse mirrored policy proposals in a child safety bill OpenAI co-sponsored and filed as a ballot initiative this year, and is now hoping to get the California Legislature to adopt (opens in new tab).
