Es ist eine Weile her, dass ich hier über Homeoffice und New Work geschrieben habe. Auch im Podcast #9vor9 haben Lars und ich das Thema schon länger nicht mehr aufgegriffen — nicht weil es uns nicht mehr interessiert, sondern weil sich irgendwann das Gefühl eingestellt hat: Wir drehen uns seit der Corona-Krise in der HomeOffice-Diskussion nur im Kreis. Jetzt gibt es eine neue Umfrage von Indeed und Appinio.
„Die inszenierte Anwesenheit“, so titelt heise online. Zwei Drittel der befragten Büroangestellten inszenieren laut der Umfrage ihre Produktivität. Der Online-Status in Teams wird künstlich auf „anwesend“ (gleich produktiv?) gehalten. Sie bleiben länger im Büro, weil die Führungskraft noch da ist. E-Mails werden zu ungewöhnlichen Zeiten versenden nach dem Motto „Ich bin schon oder noch am Arbeiten“. In allen Meetings muss Präsenz gezeigt werden, auch wenn man gar nicht dabei sein müsste. Deja vu: Ich habe diesen Text schon einmal geschrieben. Glaube ich.
Was sich seit 2023 nicht verändert hat: Anwesenheit schlägt Output
Das ist buchstäblich wahr. Im September 2023 habe ich in „Homeoffice oder Büro: Zeit für Sachlichkeit!“ das gleiche Vertrauensproblem beschrieben. Im Februar 2025 haben Lars und ich in „Homeoffice 2025: Zwischen Vertrauen und Kontrolle“ denselben Befund durchgespielt. Und jetzt liefert Indeed in einer gerade durchgeführten Umfrage die Datenpunkte nach, die das alles erneut bestätigen: 55,9 Prozent der Befragten glauben, ihr Arbeitgeber bewertet Anwesenheit höher als messbare Ergebnisse. 66,2 Prozent würden freiwillig auf mindestens fünf Prozent Gehalt verzichten, wenn Leistung ausschließlich an Ergebnissen gemessen würde. Es hat sich nichts geändert.
Beteiligt sein ist nicht dasselbe wie führen
Der Fisch stinkt vom Kopf, wer kennt dieses Sprichwort nicht. Marcus K. Reif hat gerade in seinem Blog herausgearbeitet, dass Führungskräfte Präsenz mit Führung verwechseln. Sie sind ständig da — in Meetings, in Chats, in CC-Schleifen, immer erreichbar, immer reaktiv. Dabei vergessen sie etwas: Richtung, Entscheidungen, Prioritäten. und vor allem Empathie.
Aktivität erzeugt das Gefühl von Steuerung — für alle Beteiligten. Wer viel kommuniziert und schnell antwortet, wirkt beteiligt. Aber beteiligt sein ist nicht dasselbe wie führen. Das ist das Spiegelbild zu dem, was Indeed misst: Wenn Führungskräfte selbst in Aktionismus und Aktivitäten zelebrieren, ist es kein Wunder, dass ihre Teams anfangen, Anwesenheit zu performen statt Ergebnisse zu liefern. Das Verhalten der Mitarbeitenden ist eine logische Reaktion auf ein Führungsmodell, das Sichtbarkeit belohnt und Vertrauen verweigert.
Die Botschaft ist eindeutig — das Management hört nicht hin
Indeed-Geschäftsführer Frank Hensgens fasst es so zusammen: Nicht die Qualität der Arbeit entscheide, sondern ihre Sichtbarkeit. Inszenierte Anwesenheit sei weder für Unternehmen noch für Angestellte nachhaltig. Das stimmt. Nur: Nachhaltig oder nicht — das Modell hält sich hartnäckig. Fast 70 Prozent der Befragten kommen ins Büro, werden dort regelmäßig durch Lärm, Smalltalk und spontane Unterbrechungen aus der Konzentration gerissen — oder sitzen in Video Calls, die sie genau so gut von daheim machen könnten. Dabei würden sie für dauerhaftes Homeoffice finanzielle Einbußen in Kauf nehmen.
Die Botschaft ist eindeutig. Die Unternehmenskultur hört nicht hin. In zwei Jahren wird es wieder eine Studie geben. Ich werde wieder darüber schreiben. Und es wird sich lesen wie dieser Beitrag hier.
Oder aber diskutieren wir bald nicht mehr über New Work und Homeoffice?
Oder aber – Spoiler – vielleicht überholt ja das Thema Jobverluste durch KI und was tun wir dagegen das Thema New Work und Homeoffice. Zumindest scheint sich etwas zusammen zu brauen.

Livekit supports noise cancelling, if this is added to element-call it would make a ton of people moving from discord really really happy. Its one of the biggest grievances at the moment.
