The Trump administration just banned drones from flying within 800 meters of any ICE or CBP vehicle. Nationwide. No expiration date. The FAA issued the restriction under the guise of safety.
The actual effect is straightforward: journalists, activists, and ordinary citizens can no longer document immigration raids, protests, deportations, or any other event where law enforcement vehicles are present. Even news organizations with legal drone operations now face potential criminal charges for doing their jobs.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation calls it "a blatant attempt to criminalize recording ICE." This is not hyperbole. It is an accurate description of a policy designed to shield law enforcement from public oversight.
Drones have become essential tools for civil oversight. They allow recording from safe distances without direct confrontation. That is precisely why this administration wants them grounded.

Because I suspected there might be more to it than simply combining the metals in a crucible and melting them down with a torch, I did a search on #YouTube for #Shibuichi. I found a bunch of videos, but two of them were especially good.

I really need to stress what an incredible learning tool #YouTube can be. If you recall, I have a new interest in #sandcasting to make #jewelry. Because silver is so expensive and because I have a lot of scrap copper and silver, I've decided I want to cast pieces in #Shibuichi, a Japanese alloy of 75% copper +25% silver. Kultura w objęciach kebaba
Tytuł tego tekstu przyszedł mi do głowy, gdy stąpając po plamach tłuszczu w stronę coraz intensywniejszego zapachu frytury, przemierzałem jedną z wrocławskich ulic, ostatnio zrewitalizowaną wysypem gastroprzybytków. Z trybu marszu przeszedłem niespodziewanie w tryb pobudzonej refleksji, ku myślom o naszym konsumowaniu kultury.
Snując się po mieście, trudno o jakąś stateczną konkluzję czy zborną krytykę opartą na konstrukcji metodologicznej. Stawiając krok za krokiem, zgodnie z miejskim rytmem (stop, czerwone światło, uwaga: kurier w narciarskich goglach, kolega wychodzący zza rogu, cześć), układam to w całość złożoną z kilku elementów.
Pierwszy z nich to hasło z tytułu: kultura w objęciach kebaba. To nie jest żadne wielkie odkrycie, że będąc w kulturze, stajemy się jednocześnie przedmiotami i podmiotami konsumpcji. To pejzaż, w którym to, co gastronomiczne, rozlało się szeroko. Brniemy. Ale, tu zastrzeżenie: nigdy nie można było sobie wyobrazić wydarzenia kulturalnego, wernisażu bez biforu i bez „wyżerki” po. Jest w tym oczywiście coś fajnego; biesiadność i wspólne spędzanie czasu są wartościami, których nie sposób bagatelizować. Jako istoty arcyspołeczne (mrówki są kategorią ciut niżej i myślę o nich czule) potrafimy na różne sposoby – pokracznie lub w wyrafinowany sposób – nudzić się, snobować.
Od wspólnej zabawy przechodzić do żałoby – na stypie zapija się smutki, przechodząc od niewypowiedzianego skrępowania ku przesadnej wylewności. To czasem sprzyja myśleniu, że kultura to coś więcej niż gromadzenie smaków i doznań. To łączenie ludzi. Ona – kultura – otwiera oczy i np. pomaga w radzeniu sobie z bezradnością, wyrywa z życiowych schematów i izolacji.
Drugi element to „spojrzenie wstecz”. Sugeruje pytanie „jak było kiedyś?”, więc kieruje ku 10-leciu po Europejskiej Stolicy Kultury (ESK). Fenomen tamtych dni przetrwał jak bańka. Pękł. Pozostało jednak coś, co ma solidny nowoczesny mieszczański wymiar instytucjonalny: mamy Wrocławski Instytut Kultury, Strefę Kultury, mamy Centra Aktywności Lokalnej (CAL-e). Oczywiście nie były one wprost „dzieckiem” ESK, lecz wpisały się w ten ferment kulturalny i aktywizm, który był bardzo namacalny. ESK łączyła w sobie aspiracje, ambicje, ale i kompleksy, pozwalając ludziom działać na fali tego pospolitego pobudzenia. Wielu dało się jej ponieść. Wówczas formowały się charaktery, style i artystyczne tożsamości wielu osób ważnych dziś nie tylko dla Wrocławia. A patrząc teraz, w skali lokalnej, na to, co dzieje się w CAL-ach dostrzeżemy w nich sprawne zworniki społecznej energii. Myślenie wspólne, działanie pro publico bono, nieprzeliczane na wskaźniki w Excelu, jest konkretne i bardzo codzienne.
Jednakże, jeśli spojrzymy na tamten czas jako na okres fermentu i buzowania, które wyrywały kulturę z odrętwienia i twardych ram, to dziś pozostały po tych procesach głównie wspomnienia. Konsumujemy je nostalgicznie lub obojętnie.
Obecnie kulturę spowija ambient oczywistości, a na wielość aktywności kulturalnych reagujemy głównie memicznie, zdawkowo. Jesteśmy mniej zaintrygowani, bardziej naskórkowi. Sama kultura wydaje się być wygodna, mało zawadzająca komukolwiek. Jest w tym poczucie przesytu, jakie przychodzi nieuchronnie po dobrej imprezie i serii smacznych posiłków.
Trzeci element to diagnoza stanu obecnego, który nazywam z przekąsem: kulturalny produkcyjniak. Świat jest post i na zdalnym, ale funkcjonujemy na takich produkcyjnych zasadach jak w XIX fabryce. I jeszcze bardziej wzmaga to ai, pomagając w tworzeniu kreatywnych briefów, moodboardów i raportów. Nie jest prościej, po prostu wszystko przyśpieszyło. W tej przeładowanej znaczeniami przestrzeni, ludzie i instytucje desperacko próbują się zdefiniować i wykazać.
Kalendarze, głównie online, pękają od dat i opisów kuratorskich – internet jest przepastny i przyjmie wszystko. Ale to nie arka Noego. Niczego nie uratuje. Na straży tkwią cerberzy: algorytmy wyszukiwarek i mediów społecznościowych. Selekcjonują z życie kulturalnego, rozpisanego na setki, tysiące rolek, stories i zdjęć, dając nam przed oczy tylko powidoki zdarzeń i ludzi. Często widzimy na zdjęciach uśmiechnięte, rozemocjonowane twarze, które nadają tym mikrokomunikatom bezpośredni, dotykowy wymiar. Patrzymy na nie i mamy czasem świadomość, że nie wyglądamy czegoś co było, lecz to, co zapisano. Każda próba dokumentacji zmienia obiekt dokumentowany i wprowadza element fałszu. A internet to wrażenie pomnaża w nieskończoność. Tak wygląda piekło.
Poświęcamy ogromne ilości czasu i energii, by zostawić swój ślad w przestrzeni komunikacyjnej. Ma to wymiar syzyfowej pracy – nakładania warstw, zanim nastąpi konsumpcja kolejnych. Giga burger XXL.
Przestrzeń medialna nie oddaje rzeczywistości – ona ją maskuje kolejnymi warstwami. Treści są przefiltrowana przez algorytmy, wysterylizowana i podana na tacy, i w momencie, gdy po nią sięgamy, już znika. Na talerzu ląduje coś nowego.
To kultura niewymagająca wychodzenia do ludzi, niewymagająca konfrontacji, trudu, brudu ani ryzyka. Wystarczy kliknąć, skomentować, udostępnić i poczuć się uczestnikiem, choć poczucie to nakłada się na izolację i odseparowanie. To kultura w panierce z algorytmów – chrupiąca na zewnątrz, ale w środku pusta.
Pisząc to, nie zamierzam w nikogo mierzyć pokrętną krytyką. Nie chcę uderzać w widzów, słuchaczy, twórców – bo sam wielokrotnie – z mniejszym naciskiem na bycie twórcą – mieszam te wszystkie role w ciągu dnia. Chce jasno powiedzieć: udział w kulturze – jak najszerzej ujętej – reguluje nasz rytm życia. Jest powodem do bycia razem, wsadem do rozmowy, sposobem na odróżnienie się lub zaznaczenie przynależności.
Mój przydługi spacerze jest w miarę prosty, myśli meandrują. To raczej próba połączenia tego, co zostawiała nam przeszłości, z tym, co dzieje się teraz, i wybiegnięciem w przyszłość. Wiadomo, wrocławska kultura okrzepła instytucjonalnie, ale nadal są chyba w niej wyrywy i powinny w nich stanąć wielkie billboardy z pytaniam: czy potrzebujemy sztuki nowoczesnej na ulicach i wielkich wizji? Czy pomysł z muzeum sztuki nowoczesnej to był miejski happening? Mieliśmy zwycięzcę konkursu na budynek, była działka, na której jest teraz zielony skwer, a nie (na szczęście) anonimowy biurowiec. Czy potrzebujemy odważnego, eksperymentalnego teatru, choć jak pokazują losy niektórych scen, we Wrocławiu nie jest łatwo? Puszczam oko do tych, którzy wiedzą, o co chodzi, mając na myśli meandryczną wędrówkę jednego z ważniejszych zespołów teatralnych w kraju, który teraz do Wrocławia powraca. Nie mówię też o oczywistościach z poprzednich epok – o miejscach, które były azylami dla artystów lgnących do nich jak ćmy do ognia i często spalających się tam nie tylko metaforycznie.
Dziś chyba wystarczy nam wspólne obcowanie na grupach w socialach:
X: pogadajmy o tym.
Y:Poczekaj do jutra, będę miał o tym podcast.
Na grupach jesteśmy towarzysko bardziej rozbudzeni i swobodni. Może skurczyła nam się przestrzeń fizyczna, albo od patrzenia w ekran cierpimy na agorafobia i zmieniły nam się wzorce ekspresji? Na koncertach z telefonem przed sobą głównie zajmujemy się transmisją i zapisem danych.
Spacerując zabrałem z kawowego stolika darmowy dwumiesięcznik kulturalny. Dopieszczoną redakcyjnie i edytorsko rozpiskę wydarzeń i ludzi szczególnie na czasie. I to jest bardzo fajne, że mogę mieć w ręce to, co łączy z tym co aktualne i trwa to połączenie dłużej niż maźniecie palcem po ekranie. Choć jest w formule tego periodyku jakieś pogodzenie się z faktem, że należy płynąć z głównym nurtem, wbić się pomiędzy szósty i siódmy sezon serialu na Netfliksie, spotkanie w knajpie. No bo przecież, dziś jeżeli już nas coś elektryzuje, to spór o to, któremu przybytkowi przysługuje uznanie Michelina albo który budynek kłuje w oczy zamiast zachwycać. Wyczekujemy na werdykt kulinarnego influencera, który spożywając produkt mięsny lub jego niemięsny zamiennik, rozsławi przybytek tak, że ustawią się przed nim kolejki.
Wróciłem tą samą ulicą. Tłuszcz na chodniku błyszczał tak samo. Kolejka przed nowym miejscem już się ustawiała, twarze w telefonach. Ktoś nagrywał. Ktoś inny nagrywał kogoś, kto nagrywał. Pomyślałem: no tak, jesteśmy razem. I poszedłem dalej.
