, and folks ... I want to build a standalone (battery or USB power) NFC reader that can connect to a wifi host and when a tag is tapped either query a remote supabase DB or local sqllite/csv source (thinking micropython or similar) to see if the serial number is found, if yes record it (again locally or in supabase) and make a green light come on or red light if not found (different sounds would be nice too). Any suggestions on cheapest but reliable hardware?

More of this, please: local-first tools that let kids learn, play, and explore without throwing them into the full internet.

We do not need more surveillance, more addictive feeds, or more platform dependency dressed up as safety. We need calmer, intentional tech that protects children at the design level.

The #RaspberryPi that powered my early experiments decoding ADS-B, AIS, & NOAA satellite data has reached the end of its run. Rather than adding it to the e-waste pile, I gave it a second life as a piece of lab decor, framed in a shadow box

Crowdfunded Pilet handheld PC redesigned to use Raspberry Pi CM5 for brains… even though backers expected it to work with a Raspberry Pi 5 CM5

More than a year after launching a crowdfunding campaign for a pair of Raspberry Pi-powered handheld computers, the folks at Soulsircuit have announced a major change… and backers aren’t particularly pleased.

The Pilet 5 and Pilet 7 handhelds were originally positioned as handheld computer that would use a credit card-sized Raspberry Pi 5 Model B computer for brains. But this week […]

Upgrading to the #RaspberryPi 5 with 2GB of RAM - should be more than enough for the initial duties and touch wood will last longer with a little headroom?

An old SSD, an 80mm fan I had lying around, a Raspberry Pi 4, and a 3D-printed case make up the new (and likely temporary) home for Home Assistant.

For now, I have modest plans for this setup, but once I get the hang of it, I might need to upgrade the hardware if I run out of resources to add new self-hosted home automation devices.

Curses - I’ve lost a (broken) #RaspberryPi 3B+ computer somewhere, they’re too small!

It is probably in this room…

The two older ones I could find don’t boot (could be they don’t like the new widescreen monitor, or the SD cards have gone bad). Torn between buying same again and reusing case (if I can find it), or upgrading (new case etc)…

Wann stirbt deine Raspberry Pi SD-Karte? 💀🍓

Home Assistant Logs fragmentieren den Speicher durch den "Write Amplification Factor". Ich habe einen kostenlosen, interaktiven Rechner gebaut, der dir genau sagt, wann der Speicher aufgibt. 🧮

Well, I got distracted by something different (though thanks everyone for the recommendations), and went with Yarr

I've got it running on my raspberry pi zero 2W behind nginx so I've got a proper friendly URL for it and SSL.
