So many video outlets use YT for their live stream and clips. If #peertube and #owncast had a shared site and mobile/TV app, they could say to them, how about you stop relying on Google or any other middlemen and instead fully control it? Work with us to build/maintain/promote a similar (but FOSS and decentralized) service to what YT provides?

Long-term I'm going to try and get an Owncast instance going, but for now the good folks at https://poast.tv (a PeerTube instance) have graciously given me publish access, so I'm going to try live streaming there! I'll still stream on Twitch for a while to help those viewers who want to learn about PeerTube. But the goal is to eventually stop streaming on Twitch altogether.

Sepia Search uses a blocklist (where everything is allowed unless it's actively blocked) so it has the widest range of results but may contain nasty stuff that hasn't been blocked yet.
You can also search PeerTube at:
Fedi.Video uses an allowlist (where everything is blocked unless it's actively allowed) so it has a narrower range of results but is much much safer.

I should be able to go to a site and search for every #peertube and #owncast video. Like you can on YT. Nearly 100% federation. We should promote it on fedi. Same with an app. And it should all be FOSS so there's competition and no lock-in. We should at least be able to beat #Rumble with that model.

Building vs. Complaining on the Social Web
I saw someone post a blog on about what's "wrong" with the Fediverse "vibe" and decentralized social media for LGBT folx. I'm in the tech.lgbt server since 2023 and honestly, it's not vibes as the issue, it's lack of action. Instead of pointing out the wrongs, why not do what's helpful?
Here's what I've learned from actually building community here
✅ We've created real IRL #ThirdSpace meetups in Vancouver #FediCollective & #PeerTube coop
✅ Connected BIPOC & LGBTQ+ creators across platforms
✅ Built supportive spaces for wellness and grief recovery
✅ Fostered genuine relationships that extend beyond screens
The vibe of any space is what we collectively create. Instead of waiting for someone else to fix the problems we see, we can be the change we want to see.
What are YOU building on the Social Web? What communities are you nurturing? What connections are you fostering?
The future belongs to the builders, not the critics.
