It was a long and complicated process, but I successfully set up video and voice calling on my Matrix server! 🎉
Unfortunately, it pails in comparison to the task of convincing literally any of my friends & family to get off Discord.

De onwil bij politici om af te stappen van onveilige amerikaanse (chat)diensten is een beetje een kip of ei idee. De enkeling die #Signal naast whatsap installeert doet meta's onzin app niet weg. De meesten kennen alternatieven zoals #Matrix of @delta niet. De communicatie gaat veelal via watsap groepen. Wanneer je dat niet gebruikt hoor je bijna niets. Niet telefonisch, niet per email, nergens anders dan via die rotzooi van meta. Daar doe ik niet aan mee.

I want an integrated messenger/videocall solution (on my MacOS Desktop), instead of two distinct solutions. I thought #Matrix would finally solve this. But there's just no client in sight, that does this. Element Classic is slow and buggy and Element X on MacOS does not (and probably will never) support calls. Also I don't see any other 3rd party clients doing this?!

I don't know why the newer version of Element on Android is called as Element X. Perhaps it is intentional to have the session on setting call it as "Element X Android", like some sort of crossover from both Element and Android.
