@davidak it's not 'impossible' but the sheer friction that is already there for anyone making #FOSS is pretty unwise to increase frankly. FOSS devs, artists, testers, designers, admins and other workers want to thrive while doing good work, and have many obstacles to that already. Maybe Matrix could consider sponsoring such an effort.
It might be a perfect is the enemy of the good situation; the fact we have #Fluxer and #Matrix and the free libraries that power them is a feat that goes very under-appreciated.
@sammypanda i understand that complex architecture that supports end-to-end encryption and decentralization makes it harder to create a good user experience without obstacles, but is it impossible while being compatible with #matrix protocol?
matrix isn't perfect and that's exactly the reason why i think we should put all efforts into making it as good as possible, instead of dividing our efforts (as open source community and humanity), so we can overcome vendor lock-in and network effects

@niklaskorz it's absolutely crazy to see that the open source community uses every opportunity to create another 10 messaging apps instead of contributing to the decentralized and open standard matrix ecosystem. if the element client is so fundamentally unusable for previous discord users, a client with different UI would be enough
we will never have any reliable, secure and usable messaging platform that can compete with for-profit platforms this way
