A drowning in the lake. A python on the loose. A segregationist leader. Few nudist colonies, and frankly few properties of any sort, have had as much drama as the Florida Naturist Park, which might explain why it’s proven so hard to sell.
This private community, hidden in a swampy, wooded patch of scrub oak and palmettos an hour northwest of Tampa, Fla., has had more than its fair share of trouble since a carpenter from upstate New York named Thomas Ward Gulvin founded it in 1959. At its peak, it was 220 acres and drew hundreds of visitors and members looking for an anything-goes lifestyle. Here, they could live on the fringes of a fringe culture, playing volleyball and sunbathing in the buff without restrictive rules common in other camps, like limits on single men or swinging.
A devotion to naked life was required — anyone who bought a lot had to be a nudist. They also had to be white, a rule written into the deeds that, for decades, barred Black people from owning property or being members.
Segregation is not the park’s only dark legacy.
While nearby nudist communities like Lake Como Family Nudist Resort and Caliente Club and Resorts grew to prominence, helping to secure Pasco County’s place as the nudist capital of America, the Florida Naturist Park attracted scandal and, periodically, the authorities.

#Mastodon makes a lot more sense when you realize you're supposed to follow hashtags to curate your feed! I didn't understand what "having no algorithm" meant bc doesn't all social media have one? Then it clicked: this is how hashtags are SUPPOSED to be used, but algorithms take that control AWAY. It genuinely didn't click until I was trying to explain Mastodon to somebody else and then I had a "ohhhh" moment lol

Haulover, just north of Bal Harbour, is the only official “clothing optional” beach in South Florida.
But what if you don’t want to go to the beach. Can you sunbathe nude in a backyard or on an apartment balcony? Or even do gardening in your birthday suit?
It depends.
Here’s what to know:
Are you allowed to be nude at home?
It’s illegal in Florida to expose your “sexual organs” or be naked in public or on someone else’s private property “in a vulgar or indecent manner.” It’s also against the law to be naked “so near thereto as to be seen from such private premises.”
That means if someone can see you letting it all hang out, especially in a suggestive way, and wants to complain, you could be in trouble with the law...
