A categorization feature for related hashtags on the mastodon server and a button to switch off "show related hashtagged posts in my feed" for the user would be great.
Don't know if something like that exists yet for Mastodon or elsewhere on the fediverse.
I sometimes see posts that use the plural form of a hashtag (1 post per year) instead of the singular form (hundreds of posts per month) and thus the authors are talking to themselves.
How likely is it that someone only wants to see "cycling", but not "bicycle" tagged content?
Hashtags could be categorized and the user could see a list of recommendations like "because you're interested in Linux, you also see opensource, foss, etc."
Or would that cross the line of "I don't want algos to control what I see"?
