I'd love to have total user control over the appearance of duplicate boosts in my #Mastodon feed. There is a setting ("Group boosts in timelines") that helps reduce it, but it's not very transparent or flexible. It's become less effective, and I see the same boosted post dozens of times in a day.
I'd like a setting where I can say "display boosted posts no more than N times per M hours." I'd be using 1/24.
For all the #Mastodon #selfhosting folks out there, any idea what I should be looking at as far as backoff timers or whatever from other instances coming back down, after something like a week of downtime? Several instances, most notably infosec.exchange, still haven't been sending me new messages, some 18 hours later.
I didn't even get one when I tagged myself in a new post - https://infosec.exchange/@north/116199899292856762 - until I searched for it¹. Any insight maybe, @jerry ?
Curiously, Threads and brid.gy started sending me messages within about 15 minutes of coming back online. That seems bad.
¹ at that point, it became a pull, not a push
Edit: A boost from the other side does not appear to have been correctly pushed.
Our Mastodon instance "burningboard.net" now internally **ONLY** uses the Internet Protocol in Version 6. I did successfully migrate away from any RFC1918 addresses in any of the internal infrastructure connections.
Nginx -> Mastodon: IPv6
Mastodon -> PostgreSQL: IPv6
Mastodon -> Opensearch: IPv6
Mastodon -> Sidekiq: IPv6
Mastodon -> Loki: IPv6
Sidekiq -> PostgreSQL: IPv6
Prometheus -> Mastodon: IPv6
All using globally routed unique addresses and proper routing and packet filtering from "pf" (FreeBSD).
Outbound connections to legacy hosts (for example for Federation) uses NAT64 over Tayga.
Inbound the Nginx is the only component, that supports IPv4 on NAT on a best-effort approach. But I refuse to put a lot of work into this. We have 2026 and it's a dying, smelly protocol, that I don't even monitor anymore.
If someone looks at the Firewall rules.. Yes, we do run a (private) Factorio Server on our Mastodon system

I think I've discovered a bug in the following/followers lists on Mastodon desktop. The lists don't show more than 40 accounts. I have to discover the rest by manually searching through my notifications.

Hey 👋😎 We're now hosting our own Mastodon server for underground and independent musicians, https://mastodon.subj.am.
We've migrated our account here and welcome you to join as well.
As our server description says, "We're the home of underground and independent musicians, bands, artists, fans, venues and others connected to their local music scene."
