My current #Godot project has golf and I'm trying to recreate the sort of view seen in 8-bit games like Leaderboard. Here's a demo showing how data is pulled from a top-down map layout (right of screen, won't be in game) to create the false perspective rendered on the left of the screen.

It's possible and indeed highly likely that I could save myself some headaches by simply doing this in 3D but I've kind of locked into a philosophy of "Don't learn 3D until you've finished a game in 2D".

Anyone know why the function signatures of the bindings generated from godot-cpp might diverge from the engine source for the same version?

Couldn't sleep tonight and my latest project is more-or-less done. So I started something new! I figured it might be fun to go back to learning #godot and I needed some assets for like a platformer or something. Yeah. So, I made a lil' guy. Here's their sprite sheet. It's 16x16 sprites with a 1px gap and padding.

Would anyone like to explain to me how to set up a #Godot 4 custom server? It doesn't even matter that much if it's on its own thread. The docs seem very out of date.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how to do this based on reading the source code. That's how it's done, but it's very very slow progress, especially given the lack of documentation. I'd appreciate a leg up.

I’ve been working a lot on my post-apocalpytic farming simulator, but haven't shared any updates. I need to get better about building in public. Maybe it's time to start a devlog?

Some stuff I've done:
- Replaced hexagon grid with a square grid (there’s a reason no one uses hexagon grids farming sims.)
- Multiple types of soils are procedurally generated, with placeholder textures for now.
- Toolbar icons have been improved!
- More crops: khorasan wheat, teff, prickly pear, and shiitake mushrooms.
- Trees spawn, and you can chop them down!
- Shiitake mushrooms can be planted on tree stumps with a humidity chanmber (the plastic box.)
- A basic construction menu lets you place plastic humidity chambers on tree stumps.

There are some performance issues (shadows?) and I have some bug fixes to do, but then I'll start working on water/nutrient mechanics to affect the yield of crops. A big part of this game will be making strategic choices to improve the yield of crops in a drought!
