Content warning:Blood and gore... and ankles
Throbo update. I added new animations and functionality to the orfs, and I added a new enemy the ankles they fly in the sky and stomp on you also there's gore now. #gamedev #godot #pixelorama #animation #pixelart #gore #christmas #ThroboBagdins
I just noticed that I no longer have to open a scene in VS Code to get the Godot Tools Scene Preview to load the appropriate scene tree with Godot 4.6-beta1. It's automatically following the currently opened script with the scene that it's attached to.
I wasn't seeing this behaviour in 4.5 or the 4.6 dev previews and I don't see a mention about this in the release notes. I'm happy to have it, but wonder where it changed.
🎮 Best game engines for beginners that won't limit you later:
1. Unity - Industry standard, huge community
2. Godot - Free forever, easiest to learn
3. Unreal - Best graphics, AAA-capable
4. GameMaker - Perfect for 2D games
5. Construct 3 - No coding required
The key? Pick one that matches YOUR goals, not just what's "popular."

Good morning! Special thanks out to the Clair Obscure 33 devs for shouting out YouTube tutorial makers at the Game Awards last night. Come check out MY visual novel tutorial here: https://youtu.be/c5GKLs6a7AI?si=JrnXdk0__WAMVjMd #gamedev #indiedev #godot
A couple of things I've been working on:
- Background with moving stars and planets
- Changed Warp icon + SFX and VFX
- Stats as icons with counter

Sailing towards a distant island. Video from my latest blog post (https://frozenfractal.com/blog/2025/12/12/around-the-world-28-scaling-up/).

New blog post is up! How I'm faking that my flat world is round, and how I'm keeping up 130 fps with a draw distance of 25 kilometers. At the end is the longest video I've ever published about this project.

Created a pickup node today that can have any registered pick-up-able item assigned to it. Kitties can use it to equip items and it can trigger effects like opening the door via a signal. Will be useful for the tutorial level to gate certain areas until the player Kitty gets all of the required equipment 🐱
Kitties also "poof!" when they equip things. For no other reason than I wanted to name a method "poof()"...
And game feel/juice of course... 😸

Playing with swarming behaviors and gave enemies projectiles to hurl at you. Currently thinking about what levels should be like, including thoughts about procedural generation.
Also thinking about theming. The idea right now is you're a ghost possessing a golf ball and must escape "par"gatory by defeating enemies and getting into the hole of each level.
That's something, at least. I'm tempted to ditch the ball rolling and use a regular character, but that kind of loses the physics appeal of rolling and bouncing around so I'm somewhat attached to that. With the possession idea, it at least gives me an excuse to inject some characterization into things.
I should stop worrying so much about that kind of stuff, but it does matter. I want to make something that has appeal and a strong sense of identity.

Added execution timers so missions can take time, added pausing when menus pop up, added easy tutorial integration. Feelin' pretty good, all done with the power of my own personal brain and someone reminding me which widgets in #Godot do a thing.

Hmm. I swear I saw #Godot had a circular progress bar. Was I hallucinating?
