This is the bullshit I am sure KY will follow because this state is just as #stupid. If it happens, oh well, #Bluesky was nice while it lasted. Sure, I could use a VPN but bsky is just not that essential to me.

Astroturfing Gone Wild on Bluesky
I use the Gephi Bluesky importer along with some custom Python scripts that connect to the AT Protocol and the ATmosphere to keep an eye on real time activity across the network. Essentially, I’m gathering public graph data like posts, likes, and follows and importing the nodes and edges into Gephi. This allows me to track patterns, clusters, and any anomalies as they come up.
It’s pretty alarming how easy it is to scrape and analyze data from Bluesky using just the protocol’s public endpoints; it really highlights that this isn’t a secure or private environment. The amount of astroturfing and the scale of coordinated propaganda botnets on Bluesky right now is astonishing, and you can clearly see it when you visualize the network structure.

This plugin allow you to visualize and explore the network of users in bluesky via the atprotocol.

I think people are framing this as #Bluesky being self-serving or (cringe) "enshittifying," but what they're doing would also be a reasonable thing for a Fediverse instance owner to do.
@mastodonmigration While I agree with the centralisation problems of #Bluesky, I wouldn't say the Fediverse is resistant against #ageverification mandates. Such laws can easily be applied to small #Fediverse servers as well and then all located in that jurisdiction would have to comply while those outside it could be force-blocked by ISPs.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that we cannot decentralise our way out of this, we need to fight human rights non-compliant laws wherever they appear.
@eblu @GossiTheDog if you try to setup an account on zeppelin.social they'll tell you to sign up on bsky.app first. The thing is #BlueSky is decentralized regarding message caching and distribution. But not regarding any kind of control/management, like accounts.
@rolle I mean, technically your data if you operate on your own PDS then you do have ownership of your data and it isn't blocked... however, because how AT Protocol works... Bluesky is pretty much the AppView which is what allows you to view your posts. So technically, if you wanted you could stand up your own AppView instance connected to your PDS. It would still let you interact with others on the AT Protocol. Granted, it does create other questions of will they block PDS's from connecting to their official relays if they are hosted in banned region.
I'm a bit confused about some of the discourse around Bluesky having to comply with Mississippi laws.
Does it really matter to what degree they're "truly" decentralized?
Forums and fediverse servers have shut down/geo-blocked people in UK in response to UK's Online Safety Act.

I figured it's mostly fediverse servers being too small that helps them avoid having to comply. Anyone talking about how this affects mastodon.social?
