I spoke about #WordPress and #ActivityPub and had some great questions from a very engaged crowd.
I especially appreciated getting to discuss with @obenland and @evan about the ecosystem and which parts could use some refinements.
All in all it’s left me wanting to continue contributing to the convergence of the ecosystems.
For real, I love my #ActivityPub & #IndieWeb dev friends on #Mastodon and throughout the #Fediverse. Y'all are great. I can flip in a chat or post about some fiddly fedi thing, even vulgar as hell. Someone will usually be like oh yeah, that's a pain try this or that instead. Or even when it's you're not supposed to do that or do it that way, lot of times someone suggests a kludge to hack it into place.
Dealing with #ATProto / #ATProtocol #Bluesky people gives me a whole new appreciation.
Running outdated Fedi software puts your site and its users at risk.
If you don’t know how to update your site, you shouldn’t be an administrator.

⚠️ Bitte aktualisiere deine Website

Fediverse(페디버스)에서는 아직도 매우 오래된 버전의 Mastodon(마스토돈)이나 Misskey(미스키)를 사용하는 사이트들을 자주 볼 수 있습니다.

Fediverse(フェディバース)上には、非常に古いバージョンのMastodon(マストドン)やMisskey(ミスキー)を使い続けているサイトが多く見受けられます。

⚠️ Please update your site
We often see many sites on the Fediverse still using very old versions of Mastodon or Misskey. Some are even running versions that are over a year old.
Software updates not only add new features but also include important security fixes. To keep your site secure and running smoothly, always make sure to use the latest version.

I take back every bad thing I've ever said about #ActivityPub or #Mastodon. While I still have my complaints about fiddly bits, anti-discoverability, and adoption hurdles, those are an earnest disagreements and no matter how hard y'all double down, there's engagement.
#ATProto/#ATProtocol? HAHAHA. The most condescending brushoffs, every time. And it's fundamentally incompatible with standard PHP websites (you know, the vast bulk of the web) with root access and a heavy kludge.
There are simple services that exist that — when a user fills-out & submits a <form> on the Web that simple service e-mails someone that data.
These simple services are alternatives to more complex back-end with a database.
An alternative to this alternative could be — instead of e-mailing someone the submitted data, send that data via the Fediverse using ActivityPub.
ActivityPub them. (Can “ActivityPub” be a verb‽)
Probably as a private DM.

People are Starter Packs
I think that my comment on GitHub that Group Actors acting as Starter Packs really comes from how I approach my social network.
I rely on my friends and peers to discover new topics and meet new people.
Friends and peers as Starter Packs work great on a small microblog instance like Mastodon, Misskey, or Sharkey because the federated feed/bubble lists topics written by the amazing people that they are following. This approach is ideal for small instances, but flagship, large and relayed instances make it much harder as the topics are much too diverse.
When a small instance I was part of shutdown...
