The White House now being on #bluesky proves how inferior their model is to #ActivityPub.

I'm all for sharing a social media network with everybody, just like we do with the web. But the administration should have to run their own social media server like they do their own website. That's how it would work here. But on BS, the company is paying to help Trump do PR. And the company currently still gets to decide if he gets to access their entire network (see Link etc).

Long live the #SocialWeb

Is anyone using fedify.dev? Has it been good for you in production? I have a tiny app idea that would be an excellent fit for activitypub, but I also don't want to spend too much time implementing the federation bits.

What will happen to the actual #Fediverse if Bluesky really succeeds as the mainstream federated social media platform with other interoperable apps?

@davew Wordpress, long time ago, allowed for any blog to register their feeds with technorati et al.

I bet @pfefferle could do something similar: a checkbox in his plugin that triggers a fediverse actor that acts like technorati to follow the #ActivityPub feed.

This would even be a solution #Ghost (also providing long form content) could follow, too.

Context deletion vs. Removal brainstorming

Currently I am grappling with the specifics behind how to federate out the deletion of a topic a category (or in ForumWG terms, the deletion of a context from an audience.)

For those unaware, a context is essentially an OrderedCollection containing all objects within its purview.

Deleting a note or other object is easy. If you are same-origin as the object, you Delete(Object), done.

⚠️ Please update your site

We often see many sites on the Fediverse still using very old versions of Mastodon or Misskey. Some are even running versions that are over a year old.

Software updates not only add new features but also include important security fixes. To keep your site secure and running smoothly, always make sure to use the latest version.

How to decrease the size of #akkoma database?

I have tried everything from the docs but it didn't change a bit.

Blocking whole Fediverse sites is often a big mistake. Here's why:

Admin1 doesn’t like User2. Instead of just blocking User2, Admin1 tells Admin3 to remove User2 from their site. But Admin3 says, “User2 didn’t do anything wrong.”

Now the two admins argue. They don’t agree. So one or both of them block each other’s entire site.

Here’s the problem:

Admin1’s site has 5,000 people.
Admin3’s site has 5,000 people too.

Now, 10,000 people can’t talk to each other, just because one admin didn’t like one user.

And the worst part?

User2 might leave the Fediverse or stop using their account. But the block stays forever, and the 10,000 people stay cut off — for no good reason.

Site-wide blocks should only happen in serious cases, like child abuse or illegal content — not because of petty fights or personal drama.

Yet on the Fediverse, so many people go nuclear so easily.

@davew @evan

I want to know all the accounts that are posting native #ActivityPub long form content. I want to be able to show that to people making reader/TTS apps so that they might add AP support.

so I can bookmark it on my microblogging/news and "read" it over there and then boost/quote it. reply directly. so my reader can queue up what's most popular with the people I follow etc.

@prahou @stefano @rqm Thisnis why I wish #ActivityPub used the References header like SMTP, not just a simple In-Reply-To parent link. It would allow instances and clients to keep threads together even when there’s an unreadable post (whether due to visibility, blocking, unreachable instances, or anything else) in the middle.

Perhaps the #W3C and the instance software writers could extend AP with that? It would help making AP less unusable in practice.
