Ugh, dealing with another Unity issue: sprite masks are global. This causes the animation from my primary chip area to bleed into the pipeline area.
I've known this to be a problem for a while, but the chip-only animations didn't cause a problem. Now I have to address it.
Unity doesn't appear to offer a clean way to isolate masks to a group of sprites. This intro says a sorting-group should isolate, but it doesn't appear to work.

Here's the machine from last week with the new driver -- no more animator nor rig hack. This also integrates to the Animation API, so all the modified fields are displayed in blue.
I need to add some smoothing curves to starting/stopping, but this is good enough to do the animations in Rabanaz now.
I have to decide what to do with the bones, since they aren't available unless previewing. I switched to an id-based lookup, so the transforms themselves aren't stored on the rig anymore.
I've abandoned the Unity animator. I only need simple pose transitions, so I created my own animator for this.
This is my rudimentary example. I'll convert my other complex example to convince myself I'm not missing anything, and to ensure I'm not messing with the save states. Then I'll write the game animations.
I've played with this animation enough now that I want to make a pinball game.

Does any game with 3d animation, or complex 2d animation actually do any animation authoring inside Unity? The animation tool seems to obtuse, primitive, and even lacks a preview mode. So either there are some poor animation employees suffering or they're just doing it externally.
I think I will have to do a smaller excercise project to just learn the #Unity UI toolkit + accessibility features. If I try to do it at the main project right away, I think I will get tangled up in the complexity.
Have you worked with UI toolkit and made it accessible to the #screenreader yet? Can you give me any tips for good tutorials? Let me know, I am curious.
Right after I figured out how to use the #accessibility plugin with the old UI system, #Unity announces that they will discontinue it.
This is a major step forward in the grand scheme of things, because the new UI toolkit comes with screenreader accessibility built in.
But in my little unimportant world, this means that I have to learn a new UI workflow and how to make it accessible at the same time.
So I will do the logical thing and work on something else instead, haha. 🫠 👇
