@alxlg #WhatsApp is way more popular than #Telegram and they have #e2ee, so that is a huge empty claim, and about your other post, with my post I didn't imply that Telegram is the reason people don't use #DeltaChat etc. I just pointed to the irony of the post.
I agree it is hard to reach the masses without compromises, but let's be honest, if #Meta would put DeltaChat or xmpp into people like they did with WA, people would use it all the same, it doesn't really matter much

Well, I've finally found the impetus to change my chats with my dad from Telegram to Delta Chat. Delta Chat posted a message from Telegram's CEO and he's rather shitty. I've known that for a while, and that Telegram's probably the worst of the western privacy focused IM things.
To be honest, I knew that when I set it up, but with Signal only allowing a single profile limits me, because I want to use it with other internet people, and my IRL stuff is rather different.
But Delta Chat allows multiple profiles. I can have one of my dad and one for everyone else.
I'll write again once I get it set up with him and try it a bit.

What an announcement from #Telegram owner Pawel Durov! To provide just a few critical notes, he
- makes believe he is just a commoner, and not the billionaire owner of one of the largest message, media and metadata *cleartext* databases on earth
- skips over Global Warming
- refers to "fathers and forefathers" of the Internet ... apparently never heart of Radia Perlman, Margaret Hamilton or Ada Lovelace?
- conveniently excludes Russia and its authoritarian politics from his critique
