Always curious to expand my #SelfHosted #HomeLab adventure, I am once again looking at #matrix and #element
I love the concept of these tools.
However, the execution leaves quite a bit to be desired.
Communities are few and far between. The UI/UX is painfully clunky. The spam and bots are barely contained. E2E encryption is great in theory but not helpful for public groups, and yet when enabled causes plenty of usability issues.
It mostly feels like IRC plus a mediocre android app at this point.
And yet when it comes to federated IM, I'm not seeing better alternatives either.
Putting this one on the home lab back burner for now.

ejabberd 25.08 has been released, bringing a lot of improvements to our Matrix bridge.

We now support older room version but also the brand new "Hydra" format.
Of course, we also improved the core XMPP part of the server as well.

Hier sende ich eine Nachricht an einen neuen Kontakt. Anscheinend soll ich wissen, dass es nicht reicht, den anderen Menschen einzuladen, damit er/sie/es die Nachricht auch wirklich empfangen kann.
Andere Software würde natürlich ermöglichen, sich mit einer initialen Nachricht vorzustellen *warum* man jemand wildfremdes in einen Chat einlädt.
Matrix/Element verschluckt die Nachrichten einfach kommentarlos. Danke.

@carbonatedcaffeine @agx Yes, I use many clients with different accounts and #Chatty consumes way less RAM in the background than possibly any other graphical #Matrix client. Also, #Fractal cannot run minimised AFAIK. I also use Chatty on desktop.
