Shortly before migrating some things back from #Matrix to #XMPP, I experienced first-hand what a shitshow group chats on the network are. If you are exposed to targeted spam attacks of some idiots, XMPP gives you not a single effective tool to handle it. Yet, XMPP fanboys walk around here telling people how bad moderation on Matrix is virtually all day.

recommendations for Matrix clients for Linux that aren't NeoChat or Element? Ideally something that I can get via Flatpak or RPM and works well under Fedora+KDE, but I'm not opposed to weirder installation procedures (within reason, lol). Bonus points for non-Electron.
NeoChat is fine, but it seems to miss events, so when I wake my computer in the morning I find the latter half of a conversation without context (older messages do appear, just not recent ones since sleeping), and I need to read the first half on my phone

Not sure if it's funny or infuriating that even though I stopped running a #Matrix server years ago, I still get quite a bit of junk traffic from matrix servers trying to federate with a server that's not there and hasn't been for years.
Well, just make sure you've deleted the .well-known data, they'll go away eventually, right? Wrong, there's a fallback to just then spamming SRV & A record DNS queries for _matrix-fed._tcp & _matrix._tcp on the domain. Now, it could partially be my fault since they match a wildcard and thus don't return SERVFAIL, but according to the API description if that fails, then the next escalation is to just blindly attempt connecting to port 8448 and hope for the best!
I find it incomprehensible that there doesn't seem to be any mechanism of "perhaps this server doesn't exist anymore and we could stop trying to federate with it".
