A spare #Fairphone 3 is sitting on my shelf for some weeks now and I just did something I wanted for such a long time: Installing #postmarketos on a #smartphone.
And what shall I say: I am very impressed how far #linux on the #phone has come! #Gnome #Mobile is beautiful. I can send and receive text messages and even use #Fractal as a #Matrix #Messenger.
It still has a long way to go: The FP3 is too slow for everyday use. Camera's missing. Share dialogue... But a big thanks to all contributors!

So while there is an iMessage bridge for #Matrix, it requires "a reasonably up-to-date MacOS"
So now I'm wondering just how recent is reasonable, because I do have a MacBook just kinda hanging around
It's a touch over a decade old though, which feels unreasonably old for an Apple product

@LadyNeuroFunk I use #XMPP as my primary medium of communication, be it chat or audio/video calls.
I ask non-geek contacts to install #Quicksy or #PrÄv. For the more privacy-conscious, I suggest regular XMPP clients and servers. Thereās also the paid hosting and self-hosting route, and unlike #Matrix itās actually easy and economical to do.
I also wrote a userās guide to XMPP.

Iām looking for an old school-internet-istic, probably hand-rolled and maintained site where some Fucking Nerdā¢ļø maintains a curated list of known-good communities preferably separated by general topic.
Having a blurb about the serversā policies would be Nice To Have but like friend I get it, youāre doing it for free, Iām not going to complain if itās literally a bare `ul` of raw links a la āI forgot to turn off my web serverās automatic indexing pageā.

If you are trying to use Neochat on OpenBSD, the pkg_add neochat does not automatically add kf6-prison to the dependencies list. Be sure to add it or neochat will segfault on start
