Hoy nuestra instancia cumple 9 años de vida, dentro del proyecto Undernet.uy que comenzó un par de años antes. En aquel momento una simple idea de tener una red descentralizada y federada, como alternativa a las grandes redes privativas, se volvió hoy en día, una lucha por la mera existencia de un espacio mínimamente habitable, ahora, alternativa al fascismo, a la discriminación, a la manipulación política y al discurso de odio. En otras palabras, no nos han dado más que excusas para continuar y redoblar esfuerzos. Por más que han aparecido otras redes disputando la alternativa, Mastodon y el fediverso en general son la única opción real y tangible para la internet que queremos. Más simple que nunca, más necesario que antes... felices 9 años de mastodon.uy, la primera y única instancia uruguaya y de las primeras y más antiguas del fediverso y latinoamérica. As of five minutes ago, I have a new policy on #Mastodon panhandlers. Messaging @2legged with a begging request gets
1/ 2-word reply: eff off
2/ instant block
This applies to public and private messages.
Such messages always relate to #Gaza. My heart breaks for the suffering in Gaza, but the intrusiveness of this begging is unacceptable. Those sending these msgs can have no idea of the recipient's circumstances.
If you want to raise funds for a good cause, stick to public toots.

As of 2026 #Mastodon is the only service I use that seems unable to pull its own weight during regular usage. I'm still getting these throttling errors just by virtue of having a few Social.coop tabs around.
