I have tried with hashtags again in spite of knowing that it is too dangerous when you are part of a minority with all the syckos on #fediverse. The local feed was good on mastodon.social, it is a way to interact too.

@TeflonTrout good guess, and I like that word for an EDM #mastodon #rave party. But look at the two barbs on the top and bottom. Does that remind you of anything?
@PippiPunkstrumpf hopefully @mariybu will start posting on #mastodon
Just one more day on the ebook sale at smashwords.com/sale. BEER POUR is just $1.99, The Fifth Seduction is $1.49, and Flicka's LOVERS is $2.22. Don't miss the great deals at Smashwords. #sales #fridayVibes #friday #mastodon #books #bookstodon #novel

I lost track of the times where I had a mentally sound and reasonable reply to a discussion in a toot and then scratching all that, but I'd wager I have about 6 or 7 of them now.
I'd spent an hour or so crafting and research that stuff, but it'd be all wasted because I lost confidence.
New here, loving the vibe and the freedom of living in the U.S. 🇺🇸✨ Just a girl chasing good energy, real connections, and beautiful moments.”

Someone on Reddit asked what was the point of using Mastodon. Of getting no responses. Of going through the hassle of using hashtags.
I replied:
For the community.
I was on Mastodon for years, and nothing happened. Virtually no responses. Then I listened to advice and started using hashtags - both for my own posts, and for searches.
It made a HUGE difference. I found all sorts of interesting posts and people to follow. the culture was *nicer* - people are much more well-behaved and friendly than they are on Reddit or Twitter. Within a month I found myself spending more time and having more satisfaction on Mastodon than I'd had online for decades.
I can't speak for anyone else. But Mastodon is a growing, lively, intelligent community. There's no algorithm, no ads, which is *incredibly* refreshing. And since it's part of the Fediverse it's linked to many other services - such as BookWyrm, which is a great decentralized replacement for GoodReads.
Not to mention that Mastodon isn't owned by some money-grubbing bastard, and never will be - because it's decentralized.
Jeeze. I feel like I'm an escaped slave sneaking back into the old plantation to tell the slaves that life can be better when you're free! 🤣
Shouldn't there be a way in #mastodon to be able to block certain tags from entering your main/home in the same way followed tags do? Like a way to get rid of all those ridiculous #cat #dog silliness and waste of bandwidth. I do like cats and dogs, but this is not why I am here to be flooded with non-sense.
Is there anyone out there willing to accept payment for building a new feature in Mastodon?
In particular I want to enable server-side filtering of boosts where the boosted post is already available in the timeline (whether it has been viewed or not). From what I can guess, the feature just needs to check to see if the poster of the boosted post is being followed by the user and if so, suppress the boost.
If you're interested in creating a patch for this and preparing it for submission upstream (I'd handle pushing it forward but would apply it on my own server in the meantime), please get in touch.

Don't get me wrong, I love #Mastodon, but ever since I got rid of #Tiktok bathroom breaks are really boring.
Five years on Mastodon and somehow I still feel like the new guy who wandered into the wrong room and decided to stay anyway.
I’ve watched the place grow, fracture, migrate, argue with itself, rebuild, and then do the whole cycle again like some weird open-source soap opera. Through all of that, I stuck around. Five years of posts, conversations, random thoughts, late-night sarcasm, and the occasional moment where the internet almost felt human.
Then I switched servers.
If you know Mastodon, you know what that means. Everything… gone. Five years of posts, interactions, and little digital breadcrumbs just vanished into the void. Not dramatic. Just the quiet, bureaucratic kind of internet disappearance. One minute it exists, next minute it’s a ghost.
So here I am again. Same person. Same opinions. Same tendency to say what I think whether it’s popular or not.
New server. Clean slate.
Honestly? Not the worst thing in the world.
Five years in and I’m still here. That either says something good about Mastodon… or something deeply questionable about me.
Either way, round two starts now.
