Moderating your server's trends is really important, as it means you can pre-emptively prevent nasty or hateful content appearing in your server's trending sections. You can also optionally prevent entire accounts from appearing in trends.

Since an update to #android 16 on my #fairphone gen. 6, #fedilab is incredibly slow with loading. All those troubleshooting tips from https://forum.fairphone.com/t/dns-over-tls-issues-apps-dont-load-data/130519/19 that helped with *other* apps, didn't solve the problem of fedilab.
And what is more: #tusky runs flawlessly (so it is a problem neither of connection nor of the #mastodon instance).
Anyone with similar experiences?

When it comes to VR, a lot of the initial hype was about how VR was going to kill regular gaming.
And even as the technology improved, the hype began to settle down. Clearly it was never going to overtake traditional gaming. It's too different.
However, VR wasn't all hype -- it can be quite fun and engaging when done right. And since then, it's enjoyed it's own little corner of the gaming world.
It didn't take over, but it occupies a happy niche in the gaming world, successfully, for the right kind of experiences.
VR may not have overtaken traditional video games, but it thrives at a modest scale, as it's own distinct 'thing'.
With that strained analogy in mind, I don't think it's a failure for #Mastodon to not overtake or even match the former success of Twitter. The conditions that led to Twitter's success are drastically different today, than they were at the time. Chasing that success may prove futile and maddening even with the best of efforts.
I'm not suggesting not trying, of course, but it's perfectly fine for the Masto experience to be a smaller, cozier one.
(Why did I write this? A response to something I saw, but then realized I didn't really address what the post was about, so fuck it: spontaneous Masto love post.)
