Sie "vergessen" dabei jedoch, dass wir Deutschen unsere florierende #Solarindustrie ab 2012 an deren #KP praktisch verschenkt haben. Und derzeit mit #Elektromobilität , #Batterietechnologie & grünem #Wasserstoff sogar die gleichen Fehler wiederholen.

Das englischsprachige Projekt instances.social will bei der Auswahl einer #Mastodon-#Instanz helfen.
Zu diesem Zweck stellt die Website einige Fragen, um im Anschluß unter Berücksichtigung der Antworten geeignete Instanzen vorzuschlagen.
Es wird nach der Sprache gefragt, nach der Anzahl registrierter Nutzender und ob Nacktheit oder Werbung ein wichtiger Punkt sind.
Dann wird eine Liste von Instanzen ausgegeben, in der man auch suchen kann.
Es existieren weitere Funktionen, etwa Listenanzeigen, ein erweiterter Modus und eine #API.

I'm now accessing this Mastodon instance through the unloved and abandoned Windows 10 turned fully functioning Fedora 42 laptop.
Finally, I don't have to browse the internet and stuff on my main rig and most importantly, I'm saving power.
I know I could browse Mastodon or really any other social media on a phone but I just don't like it. It feels "weird". Plus I have paws. It's hard enough to type on that thing already.

I went all out on a #selfhosting setup (again). I decided to host a few (more) things that I had wanted for some time. This instance is one of them.
Over the years, I've used a #Synology #NAS (awful, very limited software). Then I built a #diyNAS with a Celeron CPU and Mini-ITX board, but it was a bit too big for my nomadic lifestyle, so I sold it for parts before my second move.
I was stuck with an #Asustor NAS for some time, which was good for storage. Especially since it was easy to run on a custom OS — #OpenMediaVault, in my case. But it wasn't powerful enough to run everything I wanted. And that's not including things like #GoToSocial. Admittedly, I'm also running surveillance software.
I've eventually settled on an AMD #Ryzen #miniPC with NVMe and SATA storage. The SATA disk is limited to a height of 7 mm, which also limits it to 2 TB. The NVMe is also limited to 2TB, because of the price =)
Additionally, I have a USB 3.0 external hard drive for 'cold storage'. It's also 2TB. So, with 6TB of #storage, I have more than enough for my self-hosting needs. This includes my current media library, although it may become a bottleneck in the near future as I'm leaving #Spotify.
The purpose of this instance is to post about #selfhosted software and, on occasion, a little about #softwaredevelopment (though I always struggle to find something to write about on this subject, probably because it is my job) without being constrained to 500 characters on #Mastodon or running a full-featured Mastodon instance.

I joined Mastodon in May 2017 when it was still new and before ActivityPub. That server (mastodon.cloud) is now out of maintenance, so I just migrated smoothly to my Vivaldi account. So now you know.

Слоновник странный. Он пережимает #WebP всегда. Даже если это lossless; даже если размер получается больше исходного. Второе — плохо, а из первого следует, что загружать картинки нужно в lossless WebP: раз уж картинка пересжимается в любом случае, то пусть хотя бы один раз, а не несколько.

Hmm, looks like the login process in the mastodon.el is complicated AF.
Two possible places to store the credentials: ~/.authinfo.gpg and ~/.emacs.d/mastodon.plstore (both support GPG encryption).
When I make first login the mastodon.el asks me about passphrase then about password 
. Both entered strings should match.
After some experiments I realized that it asks me not about my #Mastodon password but about passphrase to unlock my GPG key (twice 
, then other programs, like Magit or pass frontend doing this only once).
Then, I successfully logged in by entering GPG passphrase twice, entering authorization code from Mastodon instance to authorize mastodon.el and entering the GPG passphrase to store necessary credentials in the ~/.emacs.d/mastodon.plstore (twice again ).
The official documentation states that mastodon.el will store credentials in the ~/.authinfo.gpg since 2.0.0, but this is not true . I'm using version 2.0.2 from NonGNU ELPA and it is still saves all credentials to the aforementioned mastodon.plstore. Despite my auth-sources is:
("~/.authinfo.gpg" "~/.netrc")
After I restart Emacs and enter M-x mastodon, I got:

While I didn't revoked access token, it is still visible in the Mastodon settings, in the list of my authorized applications.
And both mastodon-instance-url and mastodon-active-user have valid values, pointing to the my actual account.
