L'opposizione a #ChatControl non deve essere un "no" politico, ma piuttosto l'affermazione di soggettività singolari, decentralizzate, federate e liberate di fronte all'omologazione del controllo. Qua , forse, un po' lo stiamo già facendo!

If you are a user of mastodon.social or mastodon.online, or are just generally interested in terms and conditions, please take a look at the newly-redrafted proposed terms for those two instances, and give your feedback via the channels in this GitHub issue:
https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/discussions/36368
Supportive, or constructively critical, both are welcome!
Notes:
* These are draft terms specific to those two instances, although they might form the basis of a template or two in future. Perhaps.
* They are *not* terms which apply to the whole fediverse, or all Mastodon instances etc.
Aw fuck. When did #Mastodon for iOS do away with the full-width posts thing? Now it just looks like everything else. Wrong decision, folks.

[posting this here as I want to explain in more than 500 characters. this is gonna be very long]
Ok, hear me out.
The reason I didn't post/reply/boost often on my side art account @untilted@mastodon.art beyond self-promo is because initially, I wanted to aim to adopt the self-promo approach that many people were doing (and still do, as that tends to get boosted more, especially if it's a sale or something that appeals to the Mastodon userbase) but I later realized that ultimately, even if a post of mine gets boosted or liked tons of times, if very few people are actually meaningfully interacting with me, then the actions I'm taking to get some kind of meaningful exposure have turned out to be irrelevant.
Why?
Because I have come to learn that it's not really the algorithms, automated and controlled as they are, that is burying lesser known people's genuine content in favor of more mainstream and relevant perspectives. It's the majority, and thus the people, that inadvertently (or not) do so. And the "algorithm" as a whole is just a reflection of the majority and nothing more than that, whether it exists on a given platform or not.
I've seen people who happen to have small indie businesses get called out for "engagement farming". Conversely, I've seen these same smaller people told they're "not trying hard enough" if nobody still acknowledges their business after 6 months or more. And given a bunch of "suggestions" or "hacks" that only appeal to larger corporate companies.
The truth is, there really seems to be no winning formula for meaningful online interaction, whether it's to promote a business or just hang out with people or even just to ask for mutual aid. When someone attempts to make strategic posts designed to maximize engagement (regardless of whether that someone is running a business or not), that someone is criticized for being inauthentic. Yet, when that same someone attempts to pivot to genuine, sincere interactions, there is nothing but minimal response, or worse, dismissive, vague responses that seem to make fun of that someone. And when you call the mockers out on it, they say it's just "sarcasm/joking".
The other truth is that, social media platforms inherently reward being provocative and quick, digestible interactions, and, frankly, #Mastodon is no exception, even if the users attempt to claim that the people here are more genuine, with all their ironically trending cat photos that seem to bury more lesser known and marginalized perspectives.
That's not to convey that all social media platforms, including Mastodon, are all equally the same, because that would be an oversimplification. It *is* definitely much more carefully curated and manipulated and faker in the more mainstream social platforms such as Facebook or YouTube or especially Bluesky, than it is on a more decentralized network like Mastodon.
Nevertheless, the irony that neither calculated attempts to raise one's relevancy nor sincere attempts to meet people where they are seem to consistently break through the noise of the majority, is still present in all kinds of public spaces, INCLUDING social media platforms. With or without algorithms. Especially if you're someone with very few important connections, both IRL and online, like me, whether it's due to being reclusive due to a trauma, or you just had an accident and as a result you can't participate in any kind of networking until you get better.
So, it's actually frankly offensive, to see people accuse each other of "farming" when there's no concrete evidence beyond them simply crossposting to reach more people (which everyone does in 2025), to see people give out-of-touch "suggestions" to less successful people without even accommodating them, to see lesser known accounts try to be genuine and talk to people only to be met with radio silence (I have experienced this on all my Mastodon accounts).
So, STOP! And maybe start examining your own actions for any negative biases you have towards the disadvantaged due to the privileges you have for being able to network more easily, more "correctly" than us.
And maybe actually start raising up lesser known people who are truly genuine and post more than just photography and tech all the time.
I'm watching and listening.
