Out of curiosity, now that we have the ability to quote on the most widely used microblogging tool in the Fediverse, is this feature enabled by default?
I ask because it has been difficult to find posts that I am allowed to quote.

I know this is waaaaay over the top, and has never been accomplished before, but could we maybe move the stupid quote button next to the boost button, so that we don't have to click twice, or be nannied about whether we can quote some toot we have no interest in quoting? Doubling the number of clicks might drive down engagement.

But the article posted to Mastodon has no way to.link back, because there is a paucity in good "join New Republic on Mastodon" code.
We, mastodon users coders thinkers, have to solve this coding problem.

Can someone explain the change in the protocol that enables comments from all instances to be shown in Mastodon posts?
I used to roughly understand why some comments were not visible from another instance if nobody followed that account there but now I am just confused as to how the Mastodon works.
