Content warning:fedimeta complain mastodon ux

I change the context of my posts a lot, by default it's followers only, a common used setting and a safe default. But if I want to change it, it used to be 2 quick clicks. Now I have to click, move my mouse halfway across the screen and click 4 times.

I understand making -posting- or -reading- posts more work, but not to set your privacy settings, those should be easy.

If you're new to Mastodon, please consider adding a few lines to your profile about your interests. This isn't about forking out your information. You will find that a lot of people here genuinely care about privacy. But a lot of people won't interact with a blank profile. Besides, you interests will help you find like-minded people to follow and follow you back.

Also: Follow accounts that share your interests and use hashtags liberally.

And use two-factor authentication for your account if you don't have it. #Mastodon

10. Then you have all the crypto-obsessed idiots who do not realise they have more chances to winning the lottery, but fall for it the same way that people who buy lottery do.

11. Then you have the issue of almost every single client trying to push this "zapping" culture I give zero fucks about, that is like Reddit's upvoting system but with actual meaningless currency exchanging hands.

In a nutshell: protocol is amazing for decentralisation of ID and encrypted privated messaging, BUT what currently is being built on top of it for the specific applicaton of microblogging is utterly useless.

There, said. 😎

...you can literally join infosec.exchange knowing that is for information security, hachiderm.io knowing is for tech people, fosstodon.org knowing it is for venture-capitalist hungry startups (and run away) or mastodon.art to have a full of art local timeline. There's a level of COMMUNITY here that is impossible to recreate there not because of the protocol but because of the way clients use it.
As I said, it is a terrible place, running out of a decent protocol we could be using here specifically for direct-messaging.
9. There doesn't seem to be any curation of posts / accounts / follow lists AFAIK there.

...search WORKS especialy when you're in a big enough server. Theirs is incredibly pathetic. Sure is not universal in either case but if I click on #elixir I'm going to find elixir devs quickly here, NOT there.
5. Content discovery is a nightmare, I can't fathom a person publishing there thinking in any way shape or form of finding their crowd.
6. No filters, none at all. I haven't found a single microblooging client that allows to filter words.
7. No auto-translate, no way to filter posts by language either.
8. No way to tell how to quickly explore an "instance" or relay of like-minded people. While here....

Carrying on with this conversation but entering the Mastodon vs Nostr realm.

You know my opinion already, as microblooging platform Nostr sucks, for DM it's definitely better and that's the only use case I see for it.

But let me expand on its suckness so I get it out of my system.
1. It's incredibly slow for microblogging.
2. Most well-managed Mastodon (i.e.: MWM2) instances usef FATTY proper servers.
3. MWM2 use CDN by default with location replication. Largely AWS or MINIO. Content is cached before you see it. Nostr doesn't do that, you can literally see things loading slooooowly.
4. Our ....
