Oh, and by the way, if LinkedIn is doing this to Google Chome users, just imagine what the LinkedIn #iOS and #Android apps must be doing?

Might be good to uninstall them from your device.

RE: infosec.exchange/@beyondmachin

“This isn't a rumour or a conspiracy theory. The code is sitting in a JavaScript file that LinkedIn serves to every visitor. Anyone with basic developer tools can open it and read it. A LinkedIn engineering manager has confirmed the practice under oath in a German court filing. An investigation called "BrowserGate," run by an association of LinkedIn business users called Fairlinked, has documented the system in detail”

As a regular #LinkedIn user I don't like what they are doing here.

" #LinkedIn is illegally searching your computer"

“Every time any of LinkedIn’s one billion users visits linkedin[dot]com, hidden code searches their computer for installed software, collects the results, and transmits them to LinkedIn’s servers and to third-party companies including an American-Israeli cybersecurity firm.”

Edit: I admit, the title is a little clickbaiting ...

@rene_mobile I've been concerned about for some time now since re-emerging from a long sabbatical in December. I plan to extract my professional CV from it and maintain that as a PDF document instead. That said, it seems to still have some value for navigating with and opening business relationships and leads, but it remains to be seen how seriously it can actually meet my needs as an independent consultant. When I've worked this way in the past, most work came from direct referrals.

RE: graphics.social/@metin/1163353

For anybody (still) using #LinkedIn on a regular basis (and I understand that there are reasons for it), you may want to do that with #Firefox for the moment. At least the extensions scanning seems to be done only on Chrome browsers according to browsergate.eu/how-it-works/, even if all the other profiling is probably browser agnostic.

I personally take this as an opportunity to ignore that platform completely for the time being. My account will remain as a defense against identity theft, but is fully dormant as of now.
