Now with zero textures. It looks pretty similar to github.com/voithos/godot-preco which is based on Hillaire's "production-ready sky", but is maybe 10% of the code and takes maybe 10% of the GPU power. Not bad for a day's work!

today's #gamedev fun: hand-drawing a long flag, then coding a shader that wiggles mesh verts using a noise texture, scaled by how far right the vert UVs are (so it doesn't move on the flagpole side).

making shaders in #godot is nice because the preview window updates as you code! love it

Added some damage indicator placeholders to #RulerOfRoguemount now that units can actually take damage and even die.

As always, art assets were purchased off-the-shelf from itch.io (the explosion in particular comes from here: free-game-assets.itch.io/pixel)

Working on a custom sky shader again. This time I'm renouncing all physical principles, and just going with what looks good.

The shader contains no branching, no loops. It's just a bunch of math based on fairly intuitive parameters. There is just one texture lookup for the overall brightness depending on sun azimuth, which could probably also be replaced by some maths.

This is my first official week of unemployment; I had two months' warning that it was coming and so far only managed two callbacks out of 100+ applications sent out. Fortunately the place I'm interviewing at now seems pretty interested! Unfortunately, they're taking quite a while to make a final decision which is just great for the ol' anxiety machine.

So to cope, I've been spending way too much time doing #GameDev! Tonight I couldn't sleep because I sent off an email asking for an update yesterday and never heard back so now I'm worried I killed my chances. In this spirit, units in #RulerOfRoguemount can now die, and leave gravestones behind when they do!
